Groovy...babbbbeee. Yep, Chris and I were definitely that and then some yesterday at the Wine Festival 2007 at the beautiful Watkins Glen Racetrack!!! Friggin "A".... I gotta tell you there ain't nuttin' like going round a racetrack in a PACE car at speeds of over 120 while a little tipsy from tasting some azzz-kickin great wines...for only $5!!!
And here is a link to the wineries that we saw up there, in case you want to order any of the ones I will mention here: Cut & paste this link in your browser: http://www.flwinefest.com/wineries.html\
The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feeling Groovy) Lyrics -by Simon & Garfunkel
Slow down, you move too fast. You got to make the morning last. Just kicking down the cobble stones. Looking for fun and feelin' groovy. Hello lamppost, What cha knowing? I've come to watch your flowers growing. Ain't cha got no rhymes for me? Doot-in' doo-doo, Feelin' groovy.
Got no deeds to do, No promises to keep. I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep. Let the morning time drop all its petals on me. Life, I love you, All is groovy. There were 85 wineries at this place.. a frikken plethora of people staggerin' like there was no tomorrow.. and you are not gonna tell me that they were that way from only a mouthful of wine at each of the places they could manage to work their way up to the pourers. These, my dear people, were partayers from the moment they got off their buses or woke up in their tents at the campgrounds.... they were there for one reason and only one reason ..to partay!!! Both Chrissy and I got to see couples dirty dancin' (I got a video) but we were stumped as to whether they really had the hots for each other or were they just trying to keep each other standing??? I will post a bulletin when I get the coupla pictures from the festival on my photobucket, but I went to drink ...the camera was not out all that often.
Hey, this was a place to unpin your hair, shake it out and work it mama, daddy ..work it!!! And true to the phrase, if you build it, they will come.. they sure as hell did!!!!! And going by bus is the absolute best way to do this .. you don't need to appoint a designated driver outta your circle of friends and they have to listen to a bunch of "feeling groovy" people in the car singing their wasted azzzzess off, and you have tons of storage room for all those that go to the festivals once every four years and bring home 13 (that's right ..count 'em) bottles of vino!!!!
I got four bottles of Reisling (two which were named 2007 Reislings of the year for Keuka Valley) from the Chateau Layette Reneau, 2 from the Brotherhood Winery. I prefer the sweeter wines over those drier, more bitter taste so you can see I am far more less a connisuer than most, but hey, I have gradeeeeattted from the Boons Farm and Thunderbird!!! Also got a few awesome ones from the Bagley Winery.. a great red called One Eye Cat, and a Merlot called Pecker Head. And of course I hit up the Hazlitt Wineries and did the Red Cat dittie.. and bought me not only a Red Cat, but a White Cat and a bottle of Cabin Fever. Bought a great Chardonnay from the Thirsty Owl winery called Diamond. And lastly, we hit Pleasant Valley Winery and bought a bottle of Chocolate Lab (frig, this stuff is like candy babbbbeee, melted decedent chocolate) and about half way thru that mouthful the gentlemen pourer said, stop and mix it with our blackberry Merlot.. OMG!!!! It was almost, almost as good as B.O.B. (well, let's tell the frikken truth here.. it was better than the B.O.B. I just received in the plain brown package delivered right to my door in it's original limp state, but not as fine as I think I remember the real thing to be).. our bus driver was a hoot!!! We sang on the way back..
Oooooo... I came back to add this... at the festival, Corning Glass had an exhibit..(actually there were tons of exhibit stands.. like cooking classes (we got some excellent recipes: Crazy Thai Shrimp, Wine & Cheese Soup, Homemade Sangria, Seafood Stuffed Mushrooms w/Pinot Grigio & Sauce Mornay. Chicken Reisling...gonna try em all) where they were blowing glass and this year, 2007 is the year of Glass Flowers. Now, I been to the Corning Museum of Glass many times in my youth (our annual vacation was to the Catskill region), but the glass blowing (always fascinated me) is even better and they have a new feature.. I am soooo gonna make a trip there.. you can actually (for a fee) help create your own glass souvenier. They gave me some free flower seeds for blue sage.. one of my favs!!!! And we got free grape lip balm and pink beads and entered for a chance at winning a spa vacation in Ithaca! How can life be this good??????
What more can you ask for a bunch of tipsy, but happy people singing and then watching Blue Collor comedy DVDs laughin our sorry half-lit azzzesss off like some dear sweet ole people in a nursing home driving around in their wheelchairs exposing their bad selves so they can giggle the night away..
And next weekend we found a real deal (because of the late minute booking) to Mystic Connecticutt for the annual boat show.. so babeee.. we are gonna go to Mystic and take us some of this fine, fine wine and once again partay... we realized there were 4 years between our last trip and this one and we have vowed to enjoy life more!!! Can I get a OOOOOhhhh RRRRAHHHHH???
Ah yes, in the inemitable words of Billy Joel....
A bottle of reds, a bottle of whites Whatever kind of mood you're in tonight

Sounds like a complete blast! I'd love to go wine tasting...but dislike the taste of 90% of wine.... . Really makes me sad because I live close enough to the Napa Valley I could plan a trip. But the atmosphere is soooo nice..I've been to a couple but not much use if I don't like the taste.
Excellent blog.....kudos.

Damn girl - I expected NOT to hear from you until tomorrow....figured you would have tasted at a minimum half the wines...
Good to hear you had a good time and it sounded like a blast...
Nasty thing about wine and me - seems I drink to much of the stuff when I do have it and that lands me in some funny (or not so funny) places...
OOOOOOO-RAH!!!
Anyway - good to know you are back safe - D

You have all of us salivating for wine on a Sunday morning... but even more than that - wishing we could be there with you. Everything sounds like so much fun!
And what a perfect blog to have and enjoy on a perfect Sunday morning. Temperature here is 70 degrees, there's a low rumble of thunder in the west and everything has been washed with a slow, soft rain.
Thank you for that little extra touch : a good read....

I love your view from here and am so glad you share it!!....Crazy lady with a bottle of wine in one hand and life in the other.....dance on GF!!!
Watermelon Crawl by Tracy Byrd
I was driving through Georgia in late July On a day hot enough To make the Devil sigh
I saw a homemade sign Written in red Rind County Watermelon Festival Ahead
Well, I wasn't in a hurry So I slowed down Took a two lane road To a one horse town
There was a party going on When I got there I heard a welcome speech From a small town mayor
He said we got a hundred Gallons of sweet red wine Made from the biggest Watermelons on the vine
Help yourself to some But obey the law If you drink, don't drive Do the watermelon crawl
When the band started playing The watermelon queen said Let me show you something That you ain't never seen
She grabbed me by the arm Said, come on, let's go She dipped down, spun around And doe-see-doed
She rocked back on her heels Dropped down to her knees Crawled across the floor Then she jumped back on her feet
She wiggled and she giggled Beat all you ever saw Said this is how you do The watermelon crawl
She said we got a hundred Gallons of sweet red wine Made from the biggest Watermelons on the vine
Help yourself to some But obey the law If you drink, don't drive Do the watermelon crawl
Well, if you're ever down In Georgia round about July If you ain't in a hurry Then you oughta stop by
I can guarantee that You're gonna have a ball Learning how to do The watermelon crawl
Well, we got a hundred Gallons of sweet red wine Made from the biggest Watermelons on the vine
Help yourself to some But obey the law If you drink, don't drive Do the watermelon crawl
Have fun, you all (that means YOU GF) You do the watermelon crawl You do the watermelon crawl You do the watermelon crawl Do the watermelon crawl
