We went to hubby's mothers yearly family get together today. I was expecting it to be more like his dad's yearly family get together in Texas. Wrong.
This side of the family rents a bunch of cabins and they make a weekend + time of it. There was not very many people there and hubby didn't know anyone so it made it a little strange for me right away. I am shy when I meet new people and they seem to have thier family and be just fine with not adding new family members.
Some of them were real sweet and a few were down right rude and made you feel like heading home before you told them off about their attitude problem.
One major problem for me is that I don't smoke and I run from the stuff, it is hard as heck for me to have a good time unless there is a smoke free area. I thought it would be the main building where we cook, eat and play games. I was wrong. In the main building there were three or more of the old timers smoking away one after another. It was hot outside and every time I went inside to cool off I almost puked, the whole room was so stinky and full of smoke you had a hard time breathing. I spent the time with my children outside and I did have fun exploring the area and babysitting a horse of a dog named calipso. He sure loves his daddy. His paws were as big as my fist.

I am going to do my best to never go anywhere I have never been before without taking our car. Even though the ride to there and back home was nice and I enjoyed his moms and dad's company.

We were both ready to go home one hour after we got there and it made for a long day having to wait for his mom and dad.

Hubby says he won't go back next year because they do not smoke outside like his dad's family does at their yearly reunions.
Funny thing is, I didn't have to say anything to him about the smoking. He told me that he wanted to talk to his moms family so he sat there inside while they smoked and he couldn't breath and had a major headache because of the smoking. He was so mad because of the rude way some of them acted.
I am just happy my girls had a fun time and will have good memorys instead of the ones hubby and I have.
