We all always have something negative to rant and rave about, myself included. What I want to post tonight, however, is something that should happen more often. Something that we should ALL do more often.
Dan and I had been shopping all day, spending more than we could really afford on new fall clothes for B. and some clothes for our newest arrival G. I've already ran up my credit card again after paying it off, but without lay-away available at Wal-Mart any longer and the impending Fall season and our new arrival on the way (with me being unable to work) I felt I had no choice. I will pay it off again. I always do. Anyway, we were at Babies 'R' Us - How the heck do they make that backwards "R"?- and finishing up for the evening by buying a rather large box of pampers and a large box of baby wipes. The pampers were almost 37.00, but we've been through this newborn rodeo once before and we know that 217 diapers will last us about a week - a week and a half if we are lucky. And that's alternating with some cloth diapers in a pinch. The box of wipes itself was fourteen bucks, but also something that we will need plenty of when our newest addition makes his appearance. (It may be sooner rather than later, I've been contracting all week! I may NOT make it 'til August 24, no one thinks I will, not even the doctor)
I sighed looking at the prices of diapers and wipes, remembering what it was like trying to use the off-brands and being disappointed in their services to say the least. They are much cheaper, but like most things, with diapers, you get what you pay for. I picked up the box of Pampers Diapers and off fell a valid coupon to save five dollars on that particular size and brand. How SWEET! I thought. A lady/gentleman had an extra and left it here for someone else to find and use. I went over to the wipes smiling and picked up the box of wipes and off fell a two dollar coupon to save on those! Someone left that there, as well. After a week of spending and buying and spending some more, money is tight as it always when you have children. I was so impressed that someone was thoughtful enough to do that for someone else that I continued to smile all night. From now on I think I will return the favor by doing just the same with my unused coupons - everywhere - at Babies 'R' Us, at the grocery store, etc. So many times I have cut coupons out with the intention of using them and opting for a different or cheaper brand or planning something else for dinner instead. From now on I will lay my coupon down on top of that item if I decide not to use it for myself. It will probably expire before I make it back to that store anyway. The ones I picked up were due to expire the very next day. Those little pieces of paper didn't mean much to anyone else, but they sure brightened my day and made me feel like committing more random acts of kindness.
Regards, Kris
