I have been in more debates on this place then I could ever try to remember

there's been some really good ones - and some really poor ones

The good ones are where people, even with total opposing views, can debate and comment where each proposes their view or adds to the other's - sometimes with ... sometimes without statistics/data/references ... but it is not my job to do someone else's homework on a blog, like it woulf be in the forums ... unless of course I was commenting an opposing view

The poor ones are where people attempt to portray themselves as a good person - or even say they are christian on their profile, and yet swear at you, make fun of you, call you names, make light of the situation - some people refer to them as blogtards

There are lots of fun debates on here - lots of people that I just wouldn't bother reading their blogs due to their abusive treatment ... I have had to block a few in the past, then after a short period of time ... I unblock them

It probably will surprise most to know that one of my best friends (and we call each other brother) is basically a socialist ... but we listen and respect ... do not act like we are 12 to each other, then move on

Well said. I hope all MD members read this and reflect on this before they get their knives out to carve on another MD member. You and I seldom agree with one another on certain topics but I have always respected you.

Well said! Just because you don't hold the same view on a topic as someone else does not mean that you cannot respect the person.

and of course it goes without saying that the mod would like to add a few words, such as: "blogs" are not really the place for debates, arguments and discussions (that's what forums and email are for), but that still shouldn't prevent people from posting opposing or concurring views in a mature, respectful manner.

I I know me and you have disagreed on a few topics in the past but we have never let it degrade down into personal attacks, which I think is a good thing.
Sometimes debating can be fun, other times I'm not in the mood or have the time for tit for tat and let the other get in the last word, but in either case I believe it is important to respect the other person as a human being and that person has a right to express their opinion.
Truth be told, most people have more similar beliefs to one another than opposing ones, we just differ on which policies are the best to get us there.

Disagreement and debate are often the pathways to enlightenment. Without contradicting opinions we would rarely have the opportunity to consider a different point of view and realize personal growth.
I would much rather have a friend that stood their ground and argued their point of view, than one that choose to make life a "mutual admiration soceity" and agreed with everything I said. The difference between those that can debate and those that simply attack is very much the same difference between those that choose to think and those that choose to occupy their minds with something far less taxing.

And then there are those that just do troll like hit and runs, like you did on my blog last night when you left the comment trying to shame me for something I said. There was no debate, what you said wasn't needed or called for, it was just you judging me.  Is that your idea of good commenting? If you didn't like it, you shouldn't have said anything.

seems a troll has infected the bunch ... she claims I did a hit-n-run ... yet she was the VULGAR unrespectful ... and I hate to say, but trashy one who posted a disgusting blog which I commented on - to which she wrote me a nasty gram email
