The Wall Street Journal (August 3, 1995) published an interview with Bui Tin who served on the General Staff of the North Vietnam Army and received the unconditional surrender of South Vietnam on April 30, 1975.
During the interview Mr. Tin was asked if the American antiwar movement was important to Hanoi's victory. Mr. Tin responded "It was essential to our strategy" referring to the war being fought on two fronts, the Vietnam battlefield and back home in America through the antiwar movement on college campuses and in the city streets. He further stated the North Vietnamese leadership listened to the American evening news broadcasts "to follow the growth of the American antiwar movement."

In 1972 Jane Fonda, Tom Hayden and others traveled to North Vietnam to give their support to the North Vietnamese's Government. When she returned to the United States, she advised the news media that all of the American Prisoners of War were being well treated and were not being tortured.

As the American POWs returned home in 1973, they spoke out about the inhumane treatment and torture they had suffered as prisoners of war. Their stories directly contradicted Jane Fonda's earlier statements of 1972. Some of the American POWs such as Senator John McCain, a former Presidential candidate, stated that he was tortured by his guards for refusing to meet with Jane Fonda and her group. Jane Fonda, in her response to these new allegations, referred to the returning POWs as being "hypocrites and liars."

this was the start of the press and bleeding heart liberals manipulating "A" war effort ... and those bleeding heart liberals who lost that war for us ... those BHL who got thousands and thousands of americans killed by preventing the military from doing their job ... and the same BHL and worse, who are attempting to sabotage iraq as well

I was born in South Vietnam in 1971 . So, I remember some of the history ( mostly from history books I've read in the past ) . Thanks for sharing this !
I just hope , after 30 years ... both countries ( North & South Vietnam ) can come to a compromise of some sort .

Some of the American POWs such as Senator John McCain, a former Presidential candidate,

I wasn't aware he dropped out this time around. But then again, I've only been following the legitimate candidates.

First of all it was the Vietnamese victory over the US and why wouldn't an invaded country appeal to the World for support?

Inhumane treatment? Did anyone mention carpet bombing civilians, napalm or My Lai? Couldn't happen now? Extraordinary rendition or Abu Graibh anyone?

The Vietnam was a far worst mistake than Iraq, we shouldn't have been there either and we lost far more soldiers there. Now, Jane was insane for what she said, but protesting the war was correct. We accomplished nothing, other then making many companies here very rich over it.

perhaps protesting is not bad - DEPENDING on how you do this ... the point is - is that she sided with the enemy ... along with others: who should be prosecuted for treason

Pathetic isn't it. Sean Penn also and like.....................

Take a look at America's war record from the 60's to today. This is what happens when liberals, politicians and media get involved in wars. Vietnam, though tragic is a prime example. One thing about war, once military action is authorized then it's gotta be there ball game folks. What is going on in this country today in referenece to Iraq is despicable. The first Gulf War had entirely differnent objective and was accomplished rather quickly. This is why this war did not fall victim as the others did.

War is not humane and people need to understand that fact. To scrutinize every
military action to whether the action is or was humane is no way to fight a war and will simply lead to more casualties. Does this mean you level every thing in sight, no but you use whatever tactic's that will allow you to prevail. The problem in America is many of it's citizens are spoiled. Have absolutely no clue and don't care to educate themselves to have a clue.

The fact of the matter is this. All the demoratic houpla, liberal crying and media bias has absolutely effected the ability of the military to properely fight the war. They don't want us to win nor make any head way because this would most likely cost them in 2008. This is the level of respect these people have for soldiers that are in harms way.
