In the Sixties, James Coburn starred in a couple of films spoofing James Bond called "Our Man Flynt" and "In LIke Flynt", a takeoff on the popular phrase from decades before "In like Flynn", referring to Errol Flynn. In "In LIke Flynt", Coburn discovers the President has been kidnapped and replaced by an actor. He deadpans the camera and scratches his chin and says "An actor for President"...? Only a few years later Ronald Reagan, Hollywood actor and star of "Bedtime For Bonzo" became one of the most popular Presidents of all time. Reagan took a lot of flack for the monkey movie and few people ever mention the fact that the same script was offered to Lincoln, who declined it saying the monkey got all the good lines. Now we have Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson, a formidable actor with serious acting credits a mile long, throwing his hat into the Presidential race. Thompson has proven to be a thoughtful and well spoken representative and sports a keen mind and likeable sense of humor. In a multi-story arc in the late Eighties series "Wiseguy", starring Ken Wahl, Thompson portrays a snake oil salesman turned Neonazi troublemaker who eventually slips the Federal noose tightening around his neck and sneaks off to become a condo salesman in Florida. Unlike the doddering midwest amicability of Reagan, Thompson is a real actor, able to convince you of anything with his forceful, yet disarming, style. So I guess what I'm saying is once again we find ourselves considering the awesome implications, and we can only turn to the camera and say,.. "Hmmmm, an actor for President"?

Probably a pretty good job for an actor. After all, the only thing a president does is "act" like he represents the people, when his true mission is to support the special interest groups that currently run America.

Thompson served 2 terms in Senate and was an Attorney General. Math indicates that he has more experience than ANY of the Democrat frontrunner's. I think PB is referring to Barak Hussein Obama!

Am I mistaken, or wasn't Fred in a Steven Seagal movie? I think he played the role of greedy evil white corporate guy.

Fred was also an admiral in The Hunt for Red October. The role he was born to play was Jabba the Hutt, of course. Lucas could have saved a few hundred grand from not having to build the puppet. Actor or not, there hasn't been a republican in that put the US citizens above corporate or foreign interests since Eisenhower.

Just a quick point...Reagan never starred in a monkey movie because Bonzo was a chimpanzee, not a monkey.
I honestly don't understand why most people can't tell the difference anymore these days, and persist in calling chimpanzees, bonobos, orangutans and gorillas "monkeys," when they are all "great apes," a higher order of primate.
You might as well call people monkeys too, since we are also part of the primate family. Duh.
Just my .02's worth, sincerely, "Mac"
