I need to get back to schoolwork desperately, but I couldn't help myself. I computed raw statistics for male vs female and was shocked by what I saw.

I'm going to warn people -- this blog will disappear in the next 5 days when I get a chance to analyze the data more fully to include things like educational background, political outlook, # kids, religion, religious ceremony frequency, etc.

So please keep in mind that this blog will disappear and be replaced shortly when you comment on this blog (you can always repost what you have to say on the new blog). And, in the FenderChick style, toss a kudo my way if you think this is interesting.


This experiment was first done (to my knowledge) by a psychologist at Florida State University back in 1978. The results were hardly surprising. 78% of all men polled said they'd be more than happy to oblige the female stranger (the ones who declined gave excuses like "I'm married").

In contrast, not a single solitary woman would oblige a handsome stranger.

Here is what 30 years of gender-equality reversion does for the members of the fairer sex (you've come a long way, "baby"):

Men
Yes: 30.8%
Yes but reserved: 7.7%
Maybe: 7.7%
No but tempted: 15.4%
No: 38.5%


Women
Yes: 26.1%
Yes but reserved: 4.3%
Maybe: 8.7%
No but tempted: 13%
No: 47.8%

The yesness and noness appears to be stronger for women than men. Women appear to have a more definitive view of what they want, and what they don't want. That's not to say that men are wishy-washy. Or maybe we are.

Another interesting thing is the closeness of the "yes" and "no" scores for women and men. They're MUCH closer than I had anticipated. I never would've guessed these percentages for women. The correlation is a little off if you include "yes" to mean both "yes" and "yes with reservation" and "no" to mean "no" and "no but tempted". But even so, I find these numbers very interesting.

I see a very strong correlation in the answer to the "decent proposal" against college education, but that will have to wait until I get some free time to further tabulate.

The voter turnout was a little less than what I was hoping for (but perhaps that shouldn't be surprising -- this is, after all, the United States of America). If you consider the fact that 3 people from the UK voted in my survey, then considering the populations of the USA and UK, it would appear that the citizens of UK are much more likely to vote than the citizens of the USA.

I was hoping for more people in their 20's to vote, but that's how the cookie crumbles.

Again, comment if you like, but don't disparage other peoples' views. I've already had to ban two people from ever commenting on my blog. Just because I keep an "open comment" policy doesn't mean I won't ban your ass in a picosecond. Be nice to your fellow "MDenizen" (that's kind of catchy, ain't it?).
