Got this from a friend; the friend is fairly reputable but I don't know where he got the information, so take it with as many grains of salt as you please.. at least until you get an email with that subject line.

PLEASE

SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST!!

A new virus has just been discovered that has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive ever. This virus was discovered yesterday afternoon by McAfee . This virus simply destroys Sector Zero from the hard disk, where vital information for its functioning are stored.
This virus acts in the following manner:
It sends itself automatically to all contacts on your list with the title:
"You've received a Post Card from a Family member".

As soon as the supposed virtual card is opened the computer freezes so
that the user has to reboot. When the ctrl+alt+ del keys or the reset button are pressed, the virus destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently destroying the hard disk. Yesterday in just a few hours this virus caused panic in New York , according to news broadcast by CNN.

This alert was received by an employee of Microsoft itself.
So don't open any mails with subject: "A Post Card from " As soon as you get the mail, delete it !! Even if

you know the sender !!!
Please pass this mail to all of your friends.

Forward this to everyone in your address book. I'm sure most people, like myself, would rather receive this notice 25 times than not at All

Copy & paste to friend: (Click inside box; Ctrl + C to copy; Ctrl + V to paste)

You are most welcome, Allie

If you look back up on the comments , you'll see a couple of persons posted links to places with more information. One of whom says it is a hoax and one who says it isn't, so it's a bit confusing but .. I guess, in the end, if you get that sort of email you have to figure out for yourself one important thing:

How would a site that sends post cards know if the person sending it was blood related or not. They usually say you got a postcard from a friend!

A [Virtual] Card for You

Virus: A (Virtual) Card for You

Status: Hoax.

Comment: Worst Virus ever.....CNN announced.

PLEASE SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST

A new virus has just been discovered that has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive ever! This virus was discovered yesterday afternoon by McAfee and no vaccine has yet been developed.

This virus simply destroys Sector Zero from the hard disk, where vital information
for its functioning are stored.

This virus acts in the following manner: It sends itself automatically to all contacts on your list with the title " A Card for You. "

As soon as the supposed virtual card is opened, the computer freezes so that the user has to reboot. When the keys or the reset button are pressed, the virus destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently destroying the hard disk.

Yesterday in just a few hours this virus caused panic in New York, according to news broadcast by CNN. This alert was received by an employee of Microsoft itself. So don't open any mails with subject: "A Virtual Card for You. " As soon as you get the mail, delete it. Even if you know the sender.

Origins: The original "Virtual Card for You" hoax (now often circulated simply as a "A Card for You") has been making the rounds in various languages since at least 2000, with occasional changes to its text along the way. No such (incurable) virus existed, was identified by McAfee, was reported on by CNN, or "caused panic in New York." This warning is, and always has been, a hoax.

NOTE: Readers should take particular care not to confuse the "Virtual Card for You" hoax with the real "Postcard" virus that was spread via e-mailed postcards (or greeting cards) starting in mid-2007. Some of the "Virtual Card for You" warnings contribute to this confusion by including within them a link to http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/postcard.asp, our article about the Postcard virus. The one is not the same as the other, even though some of the attempts to fool people would present them as such.

(September 2006 saw the release of W32Heartworm.A, an MSN Instant Messaging network worm that lured IM users into clicking through to an infecting web site with a message claiming to offer "a virtual card for you." However, that version of W32Heartworm.A was spread through Instant Messaging, not via e-mail.)

So, here's how I see it. The POSTCARD virus is indeed, real. However, people have taken the email from the fake virtual card virus and just changed the name to post card, which is causing confusion as to the validity of the threat.

yes.. someone came along saw a hoax then created it as a virus. It did originate in msn

I think all computer hackers and virus creaters need to be burned at the stake!

I have stopped using McAfee and symantec norton internet security cause they both suck. I have found an antivirus program that is 100% free, even the definition updates are FREE!. I have even been involved in beta test for symantec and always go back to this free software. for like 2 years now ive used this and I have had a lot fewer problems. norton is just one big resource hog. even in my system it makes everything run slow, and I have 2gigs of ram.

p.s. everybody and HopelesslyHopeful don't take any offense with my post its just MO

LOL Why would I take offense? I never said I liked either one of those. I absolutely hate them, in fact. There were a couple of times, years ago, when they seemed to do some good but Norton actually imported viruses on my computer at one point, somehow. Many of the others just completely failed to do what they were supposed to do.

I use one of two free ones I found at Majorgeek.com plus, when I can, I do the scanning with Trend... trend what, I forget. But that can be found at the same site. lol
