If I were a tuba, then you'd be a flute. Your beauty, charm and grace, like the flute's sound are crystal clear. The way I am, and the way I act are very much like the tuba: big, bold, brash, loud...
In the band of life and love, I wish we could be closer...but like a tuba I'm in the background, the bass of the band. While you dazzle everyone with your flawless sound and style, could you tell; I'm your base?
Tuba and flute; two different instruments, who, like us are also mismatched. As I must stand, usually alone, your sound strikes my heart with what I wish for, but knows could never be: the musical song between you and me.
I wrote this along time ago about a girl I liked in college. She had made it plain that we were just going to be friends, but I always hoped that it would be more. By the final year before she graduated, we had become good friends. And while I cared for her, it wasn't in the romantic/sexual way. We would have dinner or watch a movie about every other week, just catching up. She eventually went on into the Peace Corps and I lost touch with her. I know she knew how I felt about her at the beginning, but don't know if she knew that I really loved her in the end, as a great friend. I hope you're happy wherever you are Susie.
