One night recently I had a dream that my ordinary power of speech was taken from me,and I understood that for the rest of my lifetime, I could say only one more word to each person I knew. I could choose to say this word whenever I wanted, but once it was spoken,I could never again say another word to that person. So I began thinking what word I should choose to say to each one,and when I should say it.I wanted my word to express something meaningful and important, and not just be a flippant, useless word, much less a hurting word. I wanted it to be a word that would make a difference for the hearer, a word that would inspire, challenge, embrace another, a word worth remembering.Although this was a dream,I realized that I never know when any word of mine will be the last I can speak- or the last word heard by another person. God, may each word of mine today be one that gives life, love, hope, and meaning to another.By- Sr.Ruth M arlene Fox, O.S.B.
