So I'm driving my son to school this a.m. and as we're pulling up to the drop off line he pipes up "I forgot, today is the last day to sign up for the Science Fair and I wanted to sign up." We got the form three days ago and he's just NOW telling me he wants to participate? Do I have the information with me? No... it's sitting on the kitchen table...or possibly in the trash. So I drop him off and tell him to wait for me. I park the car and go in. I have to go to the gym to find him because he didn't pay attention to the "wait for me" part. I have to go to three different offices to find someone who has the form. I fill out my part and take it to his class for him to fill out his part and turn in to his teacher.
Phew!
On the way to work.... I realize that the INSTRUCTIONS were on the top part of the sign up sheet. I then had to call the school to make sure he brings home the instructions so that we do this right. They didn't start out being too helpful telling me it was not thier responsibility to which I get irritated and explain that thier responsiblity is to help my child get the most out of school as possible. After a few more terse comments until she finally relented and said she would make sure he brought home the information.

God made kids so beautiful so we wouldn't kill them.

ohhhhh how i remember thouse days........ one of my daughters would do the same...... then one day i stop doing what you just did,,,, if they wanted to be apart of something then had to remember to make all the effete to to make it happen, after one or two times of missing out on something they really wanted...... Trust me they, they never forgot after that..........

I just love how school like to disregard simple requests as not their responsibility while they want to be involved in almost every other aspect of our lives. It is frustrating.

logic implies that i am going to have a very hard time with doing the right thing with my daughter. it seems that my values are going to conflict with the acceptable "normal" values of others. your son created a great deal of stress among several adults and possibly the "bitch" label for you. oh well, the paths we follow are almost always the paths we choose. the paradox is that many people want to blame others for their personal decisions. they learn that as children. i have no real idea as to how my dad/daughter relationship will turn out, only that she will blame me for her independence and not being able to find a guy to like her! LOL we be jammin

Why do they do this? Because it's their job and they can! I get my pay off now though. When my grandson starts driving my son to distraction and he asks the same question...I just smile. The other day I say...AH PAYBACKS! My son muttered something like "Aw shut up!" When I asked him "Excuse me?" He just muttered again "Never mind!"

You'll get your paybacks, don't worry. It may take awhile, but we do. And who ever said revenge wasn't sweet was never a parent.

Yes I "chose" the path I followed. For the first time in the short history of my son being a schoolager he showed interest in doing something above and beyond just 'getting by" It is my job to foster that interest and help it grow. Yes it was stressful and I could have said too bad, so sad. But enthusiasm about learning should be encouraged.... even though I wanted to wring his neck for the stress it created...

I'm not a parent so I'm not going to hand out advice here, but just out of curiosity, what would be the outcome of telling him that to participate, he should have been more responsible and should have given you the form earlier...I mean, wouldn't this make him remember a little bit better next time?
