Risky making a comment on this one KK. I would like to say when a woman is near my boys say NO to the hand......there is time later for that.  I don' the source of the information but I would have to disagree with you on this one .....the hand is emergency only.
The divorced man possibly has had more "hands on" as of late due to the fact that you separate emotionally long before the paperwork is finished. Widower I can't say it would seem that after a protracted long illness the "hand" may also have been used for stress reduction.

Thank you for all of the comments. I was going to post a comment saying that the same thing goes for women using vierators, but I see a man copied my blog to use as his own as if he had actually written it and he only changed a few words here and there.
I guess I need to get a copyright on my work to keep people from stealing it and presenting it as their work.

I think christy74 hit the point. I agree with estoyaqui there are feelings and sensations that can never be done by yourself!
I personally know of no one (male or female) who would prefer to take matters in their own hands. At 36 yrs old I am not quite 40 yet(duh) but have been a regular participant in this activitie from a early age. Actually it's called satire if someone uses your work but changes a few words to make a point. In no way is that plagerism and has been held up in court.
As for the original blog, there are many case studies by actual doctors that disagree with you. Common wives tales are fun, no? The biggest threat to a male who masturbates in excess is premature ejaculation, not ED. I think we have run into an association is causation fallacy here. Just because men over 40 experience ED or other sexual problems, and happen to also maturbate, does not neccesarily mean that masturbation caused these problems.
For one, if the guy is over 40, and still single, he may be experiencing some self-doubt about himself, which can definately lead to problems performing with a woman, though it probably wouldn't affect his ability to masturbate.
Also, men over 40 have a myriad of health issues that come along with aging to deal with. Stress from work, high blood pressure, prostate problems, to name a few, can all lead to problems in the bedroom.
Not that your thesis wasn't well written....I just think it's fallacious.

Great Blog! I nearly fell out of my chair laughing at some of the comments.
I have a good friend like this, just turned 50. And is he ever addicted! That is one of the biggest (well, not biggest)reasons we are and, will always only be friends. His argument, "You can't get a hand pregnant." 
Personally, I think he is TERRIFIED of getting close to someone and then getting his heart broken when/if they leave. This is why some men perfer "this." They have been through so many rejections over the years, starting at a very young age, that they can't deal with the feelings they get when they get intimately close to a female.
