I just received this in my email and thought it worth posting. Paul Harvey always tells it like it is.
Paul Harvey and Prayer
Paul Harvey says:
I don't believe in Santa Claus, but I'm not going to sue somebody for singing a Ho-Ho-Ho song in December. I don't agree with Darwin, but I didn't go out and hire a lawyer when my high school teacher taught his Theory of Evolution.
Life, liberty or your pursuit of happiness will not be endangered because someone says a 30-second prayer before a football game.
So what's the big deal? It's not like somebody is up there reading the entire book of Acts. They're just talking to a God they believe in and asking him to grant safety to the players on the field and the fans going home from the game.
But it's a Christian prayer, some will argue.
Yes, and this is the United States of America, a country founded on Christian principles. According to our very own phone book, Christian churches outnumber all others better than 200-to-1. So what would you expect -- somebody chanting Hare Krishna?
If I went to a football game in Jerusalem, I would expect to hear a Jewish prayer.
If I went to a soccer game in Baghdad, I would expect to hear a Muslim prayer.
If I went to a ping pong match in China, I would expect to hear someone pray to Buddha.
And I wouldn't be offended. It wouldn't bother me one bit. When in Rome ...
But what about the atheists? Is another argument.
What about them?
Nobody is asking them to be baptized. We're not going to pass the collection plate. Just humor us for 30 seconds. If that's asking too much, bring a Walkman or a pair of earplugs. Go to the bathroom. Visit the concession stand. Call your lawyer!
Unfortunately, one or two will make that call. One or two will tell thousands what they can and cannot do. I don't think a short prayer at a football game is going to shake the world's foundations.
Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek while our courts strip us of all our rights. Our parents and grandparents taught us to pray before eating; to pray before we go to sleep.
Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Now a handful of people and their lawyers are telling us to cease praying. God, help us.
And if that last sentence offends you, well... just sue me.
The silent majority has been silent too long. It's time we let that one or two who scream loud enough to be heard that the vast majority doesn't care what they want. It is time the majority rules! It's time we tell them, you don't have to pray; you don't have to say the pledge of allegiance; you don't have to believe in God or attend services that honor Him. That is your right, and we will honor your right. But by golly, you are no longer going to take our rights away. We are fighting back. and we WILL WIN!
God bless us one and all .. especially those who denounce Him, God bless America, despite all her faults. She is still the greatest nation of all.
God bless our service men who are fighting to protect our right to pray and worship God.
2007 will be the year the silent majority is heard and we put God back as the foundation of our families and institutions ... and our Military come home from all the wars. Keep looking up.

Good for him speaking up on this "new age" sensitive issue, and good for you for having the chutzpah to post it Good blog Kammy
I was in a parade this weekend and rode the ron paul trolley... We played the pledge of allegiance done by school children, and patriotic songs...The crowd loved us...We actually got thumbs up, cheers and applause as we rode by the crowd, it was touching to see people be patriotic again...

I see no reason we must exclude any religion including Buddhist, Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Atheist-ism, Agnostic, Spiritualist (oh someone will complain I forgot a few.) Just as most Christians believe differently, so many beliefs...
I silent moment to do what you do is usually acceptable wherever you go. Everyone should be able to commune with God on that basis, or whatever or whomever they do believe in. I like Paul Harvey, I think he is a great commentator, Thanks Kandy.... Just my point of view!

I worked for the Miliatry most of my life and no soldier or civilain anywhere ever complains when the Taps are played at sunset as the flag is lowered. We stop were we are and place our hand on our hearts. Now if you don't know many of our soldiers are from all over the world...some are not Americans...but they stop to and place their hand over their hearts!

Sugar they do not allow that in foreign countries, "a moment of silence". We have to respect the religion of the majority of the people of any foreign country we visit. I show respect to their religion when in a foreign country.
Anyway, most worship the same God

That would be good in a perfect world, Sugar, but we do not live in a perfect world. Foreigners who are now citizens, are forcing us to change things in our country because of their religion. First it was the prayers in our schools, and that caused out morals to change and go down hill.
Now they are taking "one nation under God" out of our pledge.
Next they will attack our money and take "in God we trust" away from it. Give them an inch and they will take a mile.

Good Blog
Its sad that some want to take Christmas away. My parents dont believe in God but they still celebrate Christmas. They just like visiting family they dont get to see often, getting gifts, and eating a really nice dinner. Who wouldnt want that. I guess its because Christmas is really connected to a religion. I would say to them dont celebrate then. I was wondering if they know that if they get rid of Christmas they will take away lots of money from this country. People wont be able to get extra work, toy companys wont make as much money, people wont need to make Christmas trees. Of course I could just be thinking crazy...Id like to say that Christmas will never be taken away but it isnt looking so good right now. Hope that makes sense .

You are right Sky. Now they want Christmas gone. Most stores will not even have signs that say Merry Christmas anymore. Now they post signs that say Happy Holliday's. They want to make the money from sales, but do not want to offend anyone, except the Christians.

kammie - all the more reason to Vote Republican! The ACLU and the Dems are not interested in our freedom of speech or religion. They want us to become like European countries- little or no religion. They think that pop spirituality is hip and religion is bad. So they worship Oprah and Wayne Dyer and the like and bash religion. We can all see what has happened in the UK and France. A Muslim invasion!

All this political correct stuff is just plain old BS... I'm jewish by birth spiritual by choice, and I love christmas songs, all those great choirs, I love southern black gospel hyms in fact I like going to black churches around the holidays that have a strong choir and a strong congregation...I feel god there when I go, its in the people...Even if I'm the only "cracker" in the church they never treat me any differently then they would themselves... We are all people and some most definitely need to learn respect of anothers freedom of choice that may differ from theirs... These anti religionists spew hatred and have no respect for anyones freedom of choice except those that share their perspective... Thats anti american as well as just plain ignorance...It breaks my heart that my Grandchildren will never know the strength our country was built on by saying the pledge everyday...JMHO

Iam, a lot of people are not thinking ahead. They need to do research and find out for themselves what happened to the UK and France with the Muslim invasion, then maybe they would stand up for our beliefs and not let some foreigner citizens with the help of the ACLU do away wth our beliefs.
Republican all the way

Kandy, I would love to live in a perfect world but as long as people exist there will be differences. I was married for 20 years to a Born Again Christian..and a republican.. Did he do what was right? Far from it, he needed several rebirths!
I don't fight over politics but I am far from apathetic like most of our nation. I stand for my beliefs but in a non violent way. You will never see me bashing someone for their beliefs as long as they do what they do politely and don't hurt others. Have a great day..I have go to finish some things.... I leave soon, hugs to you!

Americans today I hate to say it, for the most part have lost their moral courage.
Hell, we don't even fight as a nation anymore. We hire young kids to do our fighting for us and bit*ch if the word draft comes up. Let someone else do it..that's why we pay them. What they signed up for..right? If one fights, everyone fights.
We don't go to the streets, strike or make noise. That's wrong..there's a 'rule of law' you know. We can't stand up and demand anything from our government. We work for them, they don't work for us..
If you want to know what kind of jelly fish we have today in America, look at this vid. We don't believe in anything anymore. Oh..we say we do..we'll even argue about it. We wave the flag and sing the anthem and say the Pledge (If they allow us..) and then slink back to our TV's and new cars if someone calls a lawyer.
Yep..we're a real couragous people.. Couragous as long as we dn't have to put our necks on the line personally. That goes for our Constitution, our rights, even our kids We just hire someone else to do it for us..er..maybe. In the meantime, our rights slip farther and farther away for us and our children. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbV-1VO8Ku0

Thanks youaremissed. I too attened an all black church when I taught high school in Panama City Beach Fl in 05. I was the only white person in the church. I loved all of those people in that little church and they loved me.
It was a joy to be with those people and hear their wonderful singing. The pasture just happened to be my principal at the school where I taught. I had to give up my motel on the beach because the rent went up with Spring Break and I was invited to live with a black lady teacher, who lived alone, from Puerto Rico. The blacks were better to me than the whites in FL. I will never forget those people.

YAM - Amen - I am a Jew and grew up in this Christian world just fine. If one is satisfied and comfortable with their faith then a moment of silence or the word God is not a problem. I too have been to Black Baptists Churches as a boy, Catholic Mass, Friends Meeting and on and on.
The people that are causing the problems are insecure about their faith and have a need to prove all else wrong.
Here is a little google exercise - google Atheist - see if anything comes up other than political crap that is trying to disprove religion? You will see that Atheists are nothing without their smear campaign against religion. What else do they do? What else do they believe? It is all about what they don't believe!
Try it - you will see. Then google any other faith. The results will tell you what they believe in - and not a bashing of all other religions!

Thank you Kandy and Sugarpie for the kind words...
Josh If you think the 'Republicans' or the 'Democrats' are going to save anything, your in la-la land. The Repubs trashing the Constitution and the Dems trashing religion.. Two horses pulling the same wagon. Forget the party propaganda, look at the people running, look at their voting history, look at how the controlled media picked the frontrunners before americans even heard them on the issues... I have switched parties so many times I've lost count... I do it because to vote in primary you have to be registered in the party of who you intend to vote...
This election is probably the most important one of our lifetime...There are worldwide issues that directly effect the US, and they supersede the smokescreen "freehealthcare" issue they are counting on americans to decide their vote on...
Thats why I'm a ronpaul2008.com advocate, he stands tall and proud for our constitutional values, his actions are his words, no flip flopping placation like many of the chosen frontrunners...His voting record is consistent and he is truthful...

Cute post. Very "1950's," back when America was a monolithic white Christian nation.
Thanks for this simplistic historical snapshot from before we became the modern, complex multicultural society that we are today. The idea that somehow these old time values were going to "re-take" america was especially sentimental...very cute and fuzzy as sentiment goes. It's sad that so many people are going to stay stuck in the past, isn't it? Stuck in the fifties. Oh well--cultures move forward, and there will always be those people who can't make the transition and end up being left behind.

I'm with you. Ron Paul is the only one that wants to get us back to a Constitutional Republic and mean it. He is the biggest threat to his own parties 'poster boys' and the dems than anyone that has come along in a very long time. A true patriot without the BS and means it. Ron Paul before Congress..25 minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLn0tMdXd_Q

Now, wasn't that a condescending little message to all of us conservative Americans. We should when we've overstepped our boundaries and walked down the path of the "good ole days".
Well, we talk about the past as we should be; in an attempt to hold on to what was wonderful about that time and more importantly to learn from our mistakes. We realize that if this nation and our citizens don't get their collective, hyper-sensitive, political correct, we want the whole world to like us, so we're going to kiss their asses, welcome their lemmings, pay for their room and board and medical, have them and our whimpy leaders bending over the barrel, not for their constituents benefits but for "THE VOTES", let them raise their flags at our schools, I mean really.
Condescend to me all you want, there has never been a nation that has held strong once multi-culturalism has taken root. England is a fine example over the past years.
Give me a chilly, damp autumn weekend to watch old movies or a marathon Andy Griffin than one hour of the collective crap we are told is comic genuis.
I have a wonderful grasp on realty, but still dream of Camelot.

I'm sure those who believe this nation should be under a "one religion" umbrella, and have no tolerance for believers of other faiths, and even less tolerance for non believers, think this is a really cool thing to read....
Unfortunately, as it is with most "quotes" on the Internet, Mr. Harvey never said it!!!
