Far away in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.” -- Louisa May Alcott, about the beauty of dreams.

Success, as we all know, is a very personal thing. But most people would agree that it is about being fulfilled in life. It’s that feeling of deep satisfaction that starts in your soul and radiates through your being.

Finding your purpose of passion in life is not always easy. Your dreams may hold the key that will aid in your pursuit of happiness as they most probably are whispers from your soul.

The most common complaint I hear most people in daily life voice is not having enough time. -- “I don’t have time to pursue my dreams or to even know what my dreams are. I don’t have time for me, for my family and friends. Basically, I don’t have time to live my life.”

But true passion helps you manage your life. Think about this ... when you are doing what you love, are you really cognizant of the time? When you are with someone special, or listening to a great piece of music, or painting/drawing (fill in the blank with what you love the most) or volunteering, don't you find that time just flies by? Don't you often find that when you do what you love it often gets done faster?

The way we spend our time defines how we spend our lives. Can you slow down enough to get “in touch” with life, nature, and most importantly, yourself? Tune in to your rhythm and natural pulse/passion. Take off your watch and give yourself a day off. Eat when you’re hungry and sleep when you’re tired so you can discover who you are, what you need and what works best for you.

Make some special "you" time each day. I have found that carving out time for yourself makes your soul appreciate that effort. For example, each morning I get up 15-20 minutes earlier than necessary. I finish up the chores of feeding the dog and leaving her out to do her business and then attending to the goats and the cat box and food and then that time slot of extra time comes in useful to me. See when I lived at the other house, my birds are what was the extra food for my soul. For a small price each day, (the cost of seed and suet) I get to watch these tiny miracles and listen to the beautiful music they provide me. Before my birds were so used to me (28 yrs. in one place will do that) they were not afraid of me and would often land on my shoulder while I was filling the feeders. So for the last 2 years and 5 months I have been here, I have stood on my back deck (where my bird feeder is) with my back against the house and my arm resting on the rail. In the palm of my right hand is black sunflower seeds. Each day, I watched the birds get a little braver knowing that I would not be a cause of hurt to them. On Monday, I was given a gift. The first brave chickadee came up to my hand and grabbed a seed out and quickly took off. I smiled... wide and the day at work went a little better even with the crap there. Tuesday, she sat along side my hand and continued to pick out some seed, but today, today, she lit on my thumb and sat eating. I know how ridiculously idiotic it sounds to each of you, but this tiny act of TRUST by something so fragile and gentle brought tears to me ..and my drive to work was joyful.

Whether we like it or not, the clock keeps ticking -- so please live your lives fully, every single second of every single day. Learn the true joy of doing less and having more as you experience the priceless give of feeding your passion. Fill your life with as many precious moments and experiences of joy and passion as you humanly can.

When you “catch yourself in the act” of doing something that doesn’t define who you are and what makes you happy, you can choose to change it and when it’s a repeating pattern, you can literally change your life!

And for gramps...

A three-year-old in the congregation regularly watched football games with his father. So much so, that he knew some of the signals the referee makes.
On a recent Sunday, as the pastor raised his hands high to offer a blessing, the child interrupted the service by leaping to his feet and shouting, "Touchdown!"

I too used to feed birds when I lived in Michigan.I would go through 150lbs of sunflower seeds plus suet in the fall and winter months It brought life to cold winter days. It's a blast when they land on your hand to feed. Thanks for bringing back those wonderful memories.

I loved your story about the chickadee. Years ago, I had heard that you can eventually tame them to eat out of your hand. I tried this many years ago when my children were small. They came real close but I could not go out long enough and take the time needed to accomplish this goal.
My client that I take care of loves birds. I keep her feeders full for her. I get a lot of enjoyment watching those birds again. The birds liven up an otherwise dull drab day. They really lift my spirits!
Thanks so much for your timely advice. Time continues to slip away, ever so quickly. I try to make each moment of my day count. Life is a precious gift.

A kudo for your words...

I spent a wonderful hour out in the pasture just walking around, watching the horses and enjoying the warmth of the sun. I try to do that every day.

And I feed the birds, too - love watching them in the mornings.

You are so right! Today while outside work (having a lifestyle break ) the wind was blowing and snow was just starting fall. I leaned back, savoured the cold and watched the little birds cavorting in the trees nearby. I smiled to myself and was thankful

When I first got Fluffy Butt she had been abandoned and abused, didn't trust humans and wouldn't let anyone touch her. Everyday one of the first things I do in the morning is pick her up, lay back on the couch and hold her. For the first year or so she'd jump down almost as soon as I sat down, I never held her tight or tried to pick her up again after she got down. It's taken a long, long time but after 4 years of doing that everyday she'll now let me give her a back massage while she purrs loudly and rubs her head on my shoulder, she even falls asleep on me now and then. It's such a great feeling, I love my time with her.

Wonderful blog, as usual.
