I think I need some considerable help with a writing project in mind. To take on "The Da Vinci Code", Harry Potter and others...
Or at least to get something finished, published - that can be turned into a film project - or vice versa...
I deal with ideas - and I do not write about characters, plot, background, etc etc. I am concerned with the integrity of 'ideas' present - that the information presented is correct and as accurate as possible. I deal with controversial topics, which will probably be more digestible to a general audience in a story format in which characters present the diffferent views and debate them out.
To me, an ordinary story about ordinary people in ordinary situations is not enough - I don't find that interesting. I would like to answer the most simple questions people do ask - which are the big questions that remain unanswered. Sure - religion answers them for us - but I am not happy with their answers - as, too I feel a lot of people are... the silent majority. You may have heard of or seen "What the bleep do you know" - well, it could be along those lines kind of. Anyway the Da Vinci code does not deal with accurate information - I haven't read the book or seen the film, I've just seen documentaries which try to follow up on the 'information' presented and they reveal that to not be 'truthful' material at all. There is a different story to Jesus - as presented in the British documentary "Did Jesus Die?" - and I have followed up on that.. Anyway the ideas I deal with - border on the science fiction. I mentioned Harry Potter - because I was disappointed that it dealt with only make believe magic - when I first heard of the author and her first book, I was hopeful it would be very interesting material? But it is just fantasy as such. Although I haven't read the book or seen the movies (I've only seen parts of the movies).
I believe you can put useful or interesting ideas within a story format - and it is the ideas that will remain with the reader long afterwards. You could say it is life education integrated into the story - and this is what makes for interesting stories?
To give an example (and this is an example only) is say to have a story about reincarnation - and present reasonable explanations as to what reincarnation is about. I found "What Dreams May Come" very very disappointing, especially by the writer who has written excellent quality stories before. Or maybe about 'death' and dying - something like "What Death Do You Wish to Have" - presenting the different situations of death and dying - sort of along the lines of the "Ghost" movie - and present the differing views about death. And so you can say - this is about informing people in an entertaining way. It is not to preach a specific view, but show the different views there are about 'it'.
