And so tonight I sat down at my guitar and its been a while. I played a host of songs that I have played a bit before and working to improve but then I played tonight a new song that I cant believe I hadnt picked up earlier! So some of the songs I was playing tonight;

Green Day - Good Riddance
Counting crows - Round here
Loggins and Messina - Danny's song
Otis Redding - Sitting on the dock of the bay
Jewel - You were meant for me.
Radiohead - Creep
Cindi Lauper - Time after time

Now mind you some of these songs I have a tough time playing all the way through, I jack up a few parts usually because I cant remember the words or its just too difficult of fingering for me to pull off especially when I havent played in so long. Also let it be known that I cant sing very well at all, I just dont have a singers voice. But the Jule of a song I added tonight I can actually sing and play halfway decent and I love this song! I think if you have never heard it before you should listen to it (right now)!

Gary Jules - Mad World

I went to load it up here on Match doctor but someone already beat me to the punch. The song is mad world, its a tears for fears cover by Gary Jules and not only is it a great song its a v. unique video. Also you might of heard this song if you have ever watched Donnie Darko and if you havent watched it and you like strange but good movies, I recommend it. And if you are bored go to you tube and listen to some guitar covers of this song, it sounds great on the guitar! (Finally found a good place to use that particular smiley)

So I guess now I need to change my profile because no longer is there dust on my guitar after the 3 hour session I had tonight, yay!

Go listen to that song!

Saya cooks...

I was playing my acoustic tonight, my electric is in storage at the moment. I do play quite a bit of more "manly music" lots of fast stuff, I grew up on Metallica and didnt pick up this kind of music until a few years ago. But that being said and aside, go ahead an do a poll of the women on here or otherwise and see which they would rather have played for them "Time after time" or "back in black"? I can tell you that it has been my experience that the lauper has the more desirable effect on the opposite sex. Also just a note, time after time has been redone/covered pretty much more than most any other song in modern day with over 20 professional band remaking that song.

It is however pathetic as you pointed out that I am here at the house with my sis and niece playing guitar on a Saturday night. -sigh-

Anyway, to my point, go listen to the "mad world" song and if you dont like it atleast I know you are speaking from the experience of having heard it.

I recently bought an electric and accoustic guitar, I don't really know how to play them but I'm able to pick out the notes to a few tunes and the old high school viola playing musical intuition is starting to return. Good or bad, it is fun.

does it really matter what the women on here want to hear?......unless thats what this blog is really all about......your sensitive side and how youre gonna impress all the women on here......im talking about a gift of playing gutar......just like that country song says...id rather hear a fat gal fart than a pretty boy sing......now learn how to jam.....and put away all that so called music......cookie

I have to agree with Cookie. A little "Stranglehold" (or anything from Ted) would be much better than "Time After Time" any day of the week. Play hard or get on the back porch with the pups drinking milk.

I guess I should qualify I like the music too. So I can find an appreciation for Pantera, Rise Against, Tom waits, modest mouse, Outkast, Johnny Cash, NIN, Ella Fitzgerald, Paul Oakenfold and yes even Cindi Lauper... I realize most people dont have near the variety of taste and ability to appreciate as much music as I do, I cant hold that against anyone. My comment about girls liking these songs were more so to appeal to your obvious testosterone laced quip. And actually nails on a chalkboard probably sounds better than my singing much less your farting. I am also flattered that you think I am a pretty boy but I prefer girls and feel a little uncomfortable with boys taking too much notice to my appearance, I hope you understand. (Just givin you $hit now, dont mean anything by it, dont take it personal.)

Personally, I've found that Time in a Bottle on guitar works pretty good for the ladies.
Or, how about some Led Zepplin?

If you are not a singer, stick to the jamming stuff. Kill the licks, and you can overcome any shortcomings in your vocals.

If you were a singer, I'd say keep nailing the ballads. Cause if that's what it takes to lay em down...... ain't nothing more rock & roll than having your back ripped up by a chick with black nail polish.

I try to do both, work on the licks and ability to play a song through with lyrics. I am not looking to make it big off of either skill, its just a hobby. I have no aspirations of being a big rock-n-roll star. But I think the comments on here shows that there are people who play musical instruments and those who dont and just the same there are those who "get it" and those who probably never will.
