The story starts off with the life of an ordinary person, who meets up unsuspectedly with a "scammer" - say at a free online dating site - sounds familiar? It is the usual story - of being scammed - how lonely people are being scammed all the time - it works exactly the same as the "You Won a Lottery - now please collect your prize" - only instead of money as the bait, it is love and companionship.
Insert the rest of the story here typical hollywood storyline with some realism added...
Maybe add a little of touch of humanity to the scammer just to show they have their reasons - but mostly they are what they are - selfish and willingly take advantage of people who are vulnerable .. those who are in need of company, or are not highly intelligent, etc etc.
Towards the end - there is comment about all the other scams in society, which we put up with everyday for the rest of our lives - that really we are scammed in so many other ways, and most people do not know it. eg. religion (false promises and teachings), commercials (taking up our time and filling us with vain ideas, etc) - governments (not being altogether truthful to us) etc etc.
Leaving a bad aftertaste in your mouth - well, that's what people are - willing to get away with anything, if they can get away with it. Few have the conscience - which says "No way" to them, to not do it...
I'm not able to write such a novel, etc --- so that's why I give a rough outline here... that a book such as this, should appear sometime soon? If not already? You can put a lot of stuff in it, that makes it poignant - so that it's a warning to everybody, and not just to folk here ... Maybe many people will say - been there, done that or rather - experienced it already.

I have considered something similar to this. I have two or three other books on othe topics started, but was also considering a novel about being scammed to help warn people, while entertaining them. I my book, in the end, one of the 'victims' in it will turn the tables and scam the scammer. I will keep your rough outline in mind.

I feel you can't simply have a neat, complete story about 'the scammer' - but also ask the question - now, why would the scammer feel justified in doing it in the first place. I didn't mention also, that we are scammed all the time by politicians... who just want to play leader, or some role in leadership. Shouldn't we just have professional economists running the country, instead of the amatueur ones we elect into office?
And what is a scam? It is simply pretending to be something you are not - and people do that all the time (in certain areas) unfortunately. The western world is top heavy in bureaucracy - and in third world countries, it is openly corrupt, in western countries it is hidden.
