Good Morning All, I just got to thinking about something that bugs me. Bugs me enough to shake my head over it. I work at a university but this seems to happen whenever a group of "business office" types get together for a meal... they can't figure out their portion of the check without a calculator and they can't ever figure out the tip. Whatever happened to doing math in your head?

Does anyone else notice this?

I think what it means when you see a calculator at a restaurant table is that you can count on a very small tip form a bunch of conservative right wings who dont understand that waiters/waitresses make like $2 and hour and live on those tips...

I would hope not too many are like that. I'd like to think most people can do simple math in their head! Say it isn't so!

In San Francisco....

Because owners must pay servers the city-mandated minimum wage of $9.14 per hour, even though the wait staff also earns tips, line cooks' wages are effectively frozen at $10 to $15 an hour. Owners say there's simply not enough payroll to go around.

I can't imagine being a waitress and getting this much an hour!

Katt,

In restaurants in NYC and I would assume in most big cities, the wait staff shares tips with the busboys, dishwashers, etc.
