Once upon a time, I sat at the head of a huge table every year, with my 5 kids, ( not all mine ) and a dozen or more family members, and all their kids, all happy and talking and having a grand time. All sorts of Thanksgiving delights to taste and devour. Love all around. Well....almost all the way around.
And then one year....*poof* It was over. And I was alone, at the head of a rather small yellow kitchen table, with a ham sandwich and a glass of milk.
Things are subject to change aren't they. Well, after a couple of years of ham sandwiches alone at my kitchen table, ( for which I was truly grateful ) I decided enough was enough.
I knew I was not the only one who had played the game and lost. And so...... I started the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Supper Club.
I invited all my friends, mostly musicians, who were divorced, or single parents, no family here, what ever the reason, who were alone during the holiday season. I figured misery loves company.
So, every Thanksgiving, and Christmas now, I have a houseful of misfits like myself over for a grand feast and musical jam. And once again, I found myself presiding at the head of a table full of all sorts of gastronomical delights, and surrounded by love. Children running around outside playing with the dogs.....spills and boo boos....all the things I missed so dearly.
I invited anyone I could think of, even if they were grumpy sad lonely people. And ya know what? I found they really weren't all that grumpy or sad after all. At least while we were The Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Supper Club.
So I am getting ready to send out the invitations. I wanted to let you all know about it, just in case you were sad and grumpy. Or maybe if you are a musician. Or maybe if you just feel like it would be fun. Or if you are a single parent, and your kids would like to come over and play.
November 22nd of course.....anytime after noon would be fine for the guys. Girls can show up anytime after 6 am.
Happy Thanksgiving ya'll. RSVP please if possible. And let me know what you might bring. Last year we had 127 different types of dinner rolls. Thanks.
Love, Tunes

Gee Tunes....I would love to come.....guess I would bring the butter for those rolls you seem to have....
Anyway.....unfortunately I can't make it there and be back in time for work.....you can stop in for dinner when you are in FL......
You are a good man....I am glad you are surrounding yourself with good friends.....don't ever call yourself a misfit....you are far from that, my friend......
Oh....BTW....who gets stuck with the dishes?
Peace and Love Honeybear

Hi Honeybear,
This will be the first year in my brand new kitchen. I actually have a new dishwasher, which will be running well into the night I am sure.
Want me to send ya a couple dinner rolls for that butter?
Thanks Honeybear for your kind words.

What a great idea Tunes and sounds like lots of fun. I don't remember ever seeing a law that says holiday's are for family only. Hope this years goes off great for you, and be careful not to burn up the new dishwasher
Wish I could join ya and bring tons of cookies for dessert but I think it's a little too far to walk

I wish I could come - not because I'm grumpy, either..
Happy T-Day to all the members... but I have a question:
November 22nd of course.....anytime after noon would be fine for the guys. Girls can show up anytime after 6 am. Is there a Tuneful explanation for the why of this?

What a cool idea Mr. Tunes! I remember the first couple of years after divorcing be really hard and now I'm use to the fact things will never be the same. Lots of people have a very hard time during the holidays and you're so nice to be doing something about it in your world

I'm a misfit so I'd fit right in!
But wait, if I fit in, do I still retain my misfit status?
If I come I'll bring the only thing I really know how to cook: Liver and onions.
This has been a terrible thing for me since I've become a vegetarian.....
I need therapy

Nice blog Tunesy. I'm grumpy and a misfit and I play a bad sax...not good but really, really bad....I'd fit right in, sort of. I'll bring something orange, yams or pie haven't decided yet. Sounds like a great time, I hope you have fun. What a neat way to spend the hoildays.
