Don't ask me what I just said because I can only speak 5 or 6 words of Chinese... However, I truly respect and enjoy music from other cultures. I don't discount the power and musical impact of a song simply because I don't understand the words.
I think most people know the English language has many different ways to say the same thing. There are hundreds of thousands of words in the English language and therefore English could be best suited for lyrical rhyme.
Many foreigners like to learn English slang... besides acceptance from Americans, it encourages them to study more English.
Lost in translation Sure there are those who love to hear Italian opera and the flowery rhyme of Spanish music. Ask any Latin singer about singing an English song in Spanish. Something gets lost in the translation and (for the sake of rhyme) they must substitute different words that often have an unrelated meaning.
Because of this, translations from one language to another aren't always accurate.
A few years ago, I visited a Chinese woman's homepage. it was just like myspace... only in Chinese. She had music playing in the background... a beautiful duet and I loved the melody. Since the music was on MP3, I was able to save it to disk. Well, that computer died and so did the bookmarks to the woman's website.
Recently, I hummed the melody to a Chinese friend who was once an amateur singer. She knew the song and sent me the title (in Chinese) it translates to "It is originally a song to meet"
I typed it into YouTube and to my surprise... the song is there !
So... here is the song I was searching for: >>>> It is originally a song to meet <<<<
I found another version where the woman recites the lyric over the music. For me, It's more dramatic than the first video. There are many 'ching chings' in it that could annoy someone who is anti-Chinese, let's get above that for now, It's a big world and my blog isn't intended to be political.
Here is the other version of: >>>> It is a song to meet <<<<
At some point in time, I may actually get the full song lyrics and make the English translation. I don't expect it to be anything more than a love song, or maybe a goodbye song... but for now, I'm enjoying the melody.

I've always loved learning other languages.
I'm only fluent in 4 (other than English), but that's a fraction of the many the world over.
The interesting thing is when you learn the language of a society/culture/land, then you gain insight into the people themselves.
