This comes from Angeltree.com...
No child ever chose to live in poverty. These are the "innocents." They are not responsible for their family's reduced circumstances, yet they must live each day of their young lives in ways that most of us would find appalling and unbearable.
The Angel Tree attempts to bring some sunshine into their dreary lives at Christmas time - a time when every other "good little boy or girl" they know receives a visit from Santa Claus. The Angel Tree provides much needed clothing items, special needs gifts and other wished-for toys to Knox County's (and surrounding metro area) neediest children. These gifts in truth give poor children "food for the soul"-the hope of a brighter future and the reassurance that someone does indeed care about them. I invite EACH of you to make a child's Christmas a little brighter this year.
I know Walmart has Angel Trees at most of their locations. Please enjoy the real gift of giving!

One year, I picked an angel from a tree at a dept. store and bought for a 5 yr. old child. As I was teaching kindergarten then and also had small children, that caught my eye. This particular little boy wanted some shoes. I bought some like my son had and put them in with the other toys and things. Much to my surprise, the day after the holidays, one of my students came running in to show me what he had gotten for Christmas...he was my "angel" from the tree. The sheer joy on that little boys face has drawn me to do this almost every year since. You never know who you are helping or how much it will mean to them. Thanks for the reminder. I'll go pick my "angel" this week! Cindy

Nice Blog and thanks for posting this. Our Walmart have the "children" trees sponsored by the Salvation Army and the KMart here has the "senior citizen" tree (there a so many elderly without anyone in nursing homes).
Even if you cannot afford a magnimus and elegant gift, something for each child who, as your blog states, had no part in the circumstances surrounding their family, deserves to have something to open.
Thanks WAG for this beautiful reminder.
