A student went to visit a famous Zen master. While the master quietly served tea, the student talked about Zen.
The master poured the student's cup to the brim, and then kept pouring. The zen student watched the overflowing cup until he could no longer restrain himself.
"It's overfull! No more will go in!" the student shouted.
"You are like this cup," the master replied, "How can I show you Zen unless you first empty your cup."
What, you say, does this have to do with dating? That is my question for you. What does this story say to you?
When I relate it to online or I suppose any dating, I think of how we all come to this site or to any date with preconceived beliefs, prejudices, expectations or just remembered experiences good or bad.
How can we start fresh if we are not willing to let go of some of the old stuff?
Empty your cup....at least a little bit and let in something new.

One does have to purge oneself of the leftover hostility and disappointment from the past, before they can open their heart completely to someone else. Dating someone who hasn't is tedious and can result in the rebound experience.
