Hi all! I got this from a friend & thought since it's cold/flu season in alot of places now, that I'd share this w/ all of u.  I haven't tried it yet, cuz I've been lucky so far 2 not have caught anything just yet...but, if this does, then it was worth passing on.  Hope u all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Peace! 
Vicks and Coughing
..can't wait for my next cough...amazing!!!! READ IT.
It works 100% of the time although the scientists at the Canada Research council (who discovered it) aren't sure why.
To stop nighttime coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vapor rub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime, then cover with socks.
Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition, it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.
I heard the head of the Canada Research Council describe these findings on the part of their scientists when they were investigating the effectiveness and usage of prescription cough medicines in children as compared to alternative therapies like acupressure.
Just happened to tune in A.M. Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good due to the chemical makeup of these strong drugs so, I listened. It was a surprising finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, and in addition, to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly.
My wife tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her, coughing stopped in a few minutes and believe me, this was a deep, ( incredibly annoying!), every few seconds, uncontrollable cough, and she slept cough free for hours every night that she used it.
So, if you have Grandchildren, pass it on, if you end up sick, try it yourself and you will be absolutely amazed by the effect.

Yes..it does work.
My mother used this on us.
I used it on mine.
Also good for URI (Upper Respirtory Illness.) breaks up congestion.
Note: I'm not a doctor, just passing along some old mountain healer medicine.

Well, checked it on Snopes. Came up as "undetermined." The Canadians didn't study it; however, it was mentioned on a home remedy radio program. Try it and see if it works.

Another thing mom gave us for colds..
3 ounces water.
2ounces honey
1 shot Kentucky whiskey (or moonshine..Ha!)
Cinnamon.
boil water
put honey in.
put spirits in.
pinch cinnamon.
You can add lemon juice if you wish.

A little dab of Vicks Vapor Rub on the upper lip can clear things up real well to. You can do it also just before going to sleep. And you are not ingesting anything which is a good thing. Chemicals can just mess up your natural defenses.

Yea, I do kno it works when rubbed on chest or upper lip...personally I HATE the smell of Vicks Vapor Rub & always have...so if it does work on the soles of my feet, then that's all the better. The further from my nose, the better!! LOL  As for the 1 shot Kentucky whiskey (or moonshine..Ha!)
...I suppose if the lil one who was sick & complaining about feel so bad was given this, it probably did work...2 shut them up & knock them out. LOL  Thnx for all ur comments!

If you look on the back of alot of cough surups or decongestants, a large portion is alcohol.
Yes, your probably right.

A couple of shots of GOOD Mescal and a lime is all I need to stop a cough or help my cold. Probably not a good idea for the kiddies.
Vicks on the feet? hmmm, sounds kind of like a wives tale to me. But same effect as putting it on your chest I suppose. It's the vapors that help open up your sinuses, not the ointment itself. There isn't really any "medicine" in Vicks, just Camphor, Eucalyptus oil and menthol. Other ingredients are cederleaf oil, nutmeg oil, and petroleum, thymol and terpentine oil. Almost ALL those ingredients are intended for vapors. I use pure Eucalyptus essential oil in a small oil burner and get the same effect...clear sinuses and no petroleum products or stuff I don't need in me or on me.
But hey...go get a flu shot. It helps break down your natural immune system so you will be gauranteed to get sick as soon as your body is used to living on antibiotics. I've NEVER had a flu shot...and haven't been sick in 3 years. *knocks on wood* But most of my friends that swear by flu shots have gotten sick. they say, "Thank goodness I got my flu shot, it could have been so much worse."
sorry, I'm a firm believer that our bodies are much tougher then we think. Unless we try to out smart them and try to do the job our natural systems are supposed to do.

Maybe Vicks is good for your feet. I know it has other uses such as it you have nail fungus on your toe or athlets foot you can rub it on your feet, covering the effected area then putting socks on over night...it will only take about a week and your feet/toes will be all healthy again.

It doesn't always work.
Unfortunately, it never worked for me when I was a wee bairn. Mom tried it several times, but it didn't help at all.
