Happiness comes when we stop wailing about the troubles we have, & offer thanks for all the troubles we don't have.
Just like we get specific with God in the things we ask for, we should be just that specific in thanking Him for the things He gives us, & get just as enthusiastic in thanking Him as we were desperate in asking Him.
Hmmmm... ah yeah.. just placing my apple and pumpkin pies, fresh outta the oven here for scent value... the small turkey beast is roasting and though my kids are not with me (they have other obligations they need to tend to as the ones that they are going to dinner with are marriage or relationship material family members who are older and I want them to spend as much time with them as they can..who knows what time frame is left) they have called and I have had the pleasure of their voices, words, laughter and friendship AND sometimes I think they even like me!
Go figure that one.
I sit and listen to the people at work mumble and yell about how much work this holiday is for them to have all their family coming and the list goes on and on and on.. "who do they think they are always wanting to come to my house?" .. "damn, I frikken hate to cook and yet I get stuck with it.".. "Ya think one of their lazy asses would offer to do this...", yada, yada, yada...
I have ALWAYS and will always love to cook .. I don't mind the cleanup or the mess, what I enjoy about doing that is the view I sneak while preparing those feasts.. the laughter on the faces of my family and friends.. the joke telling that is happening.. the ohs, and ahs, about the pictures being shared.. the hugging, the kissing, and I miss the occasional "groping" while I am bending over to check the progress of the glistening and awesomely odiferous bird in the oven...
Enjoy what you have people.. it isn't always promised to you each day of your life. Things change and so do people. Today I will sit in My Thankful Chair and remember all those things that brought warmth to my heart and smiles to my face and I will be Thankful for yet another year to share with them whenever I can.
Let the countdown to the turkey day begin and for those brave souls that will venture out on Black Friday.. more power to you! I did it last year and witnessed the cops being called.. never more!!!
This Thanksgiving, when you feel grouchy because of all the work associated with the day, remember there are people who have no family close to them that will be celebrating the season alone, there are soldiers in foreign countries fighting for your freedom that will not be able to celebrate, there are families that though they may be together do not have the finances to have the whole big meal and the work associated with it... there are always other sides to the coin (so to speak).
HAPPY THANKSGIVING.. TO YOUR STOMACHS, BUT MAINLY TO YOUR HEARTS.
AND FOR GRAMPS WHO ALWAYS LOVED HOLIDAYS:
A THANKSGIVING POEM Twas the night of thanksgiving, I just couldn't sleep I tried counting backwards, I tried counting sheep. The leftovers beckoned - the dark meat and white But I fought the temptation with all of my might
Tossing and turning with anticipation The thought of a snack became infatuation. So, I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door And gazed at the fridge, full of goodies galore.
I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes, Pickles and carrots, beans and tomatoes. I felt myself swelling so plump and so round, 'Til all of a sudden, I rose off the ground.
I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the sky With a mouthful of pudding and a handful of pie. But, I managed to yell as I soared past the trees.... Happy eating to all - pass the cranberries, please.
May your stuffing be tasty, may your turkey be plump. May your potatoes 'n gravy have nary a lump, May your yams be delicious may your pies take the prize, May your thanksgiving dinner stay off of your thighs! -- Author Unknown

Yes we complain about family coming. My family isn't coming this year, I'm feeling a little sad about that. Nonetheless, my folks are enjoying Thanksgiving with my stepmother's family which I think is wonderful and can't help but be a little jealous...they are back in my hometown.
STILL I'm in a very good mood. Yesterday, I got to play with my grandson, read him the Night Before Christmas, give him a bottle AND give him a bath...all within a two hour time period!
Today, I get to celebrate Thanksgiving with one of my closest friends and her family. The best part is I'M NOT COOKING! I'm on the clean up crew instead.
Happy Thanksgiving, C!

"I cried because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet." (Unknown)
Most often it's the little things in life we take for granted.
Live wholly and in whole gratefulness.
It makes the world a better place.
Thank you, my friend.

Loved the song
I know it was a poem, but if you are tone deaf, it sounds great.
