May you rest in peace my friend... I received a phone call today that Lead Singer for the Metal group QUIET RIOT had passed away in his Las Vegas home. He was found yesterday, dead at the age of 52. The news story has already hit the internet and can be found on many websites.
Kevin's official website www.kevindubro.com is offline at the moment as well as the website of his drummer and best friend, Frankie Banali

I saw Kevin in September when Quiet Riot came into town to perform the after game show at a Marlins (baseball) sporting event. Having known drummer Frankie Banali for 37 years (we played in a band together in 1970) I always get free tickets and backstage passes when are in town... Accustomed to 4 hour flight delays, switching planes at the last minute and Airlines loosing their luggage. Life on the road takes a toll on all of them. However, Kevin was his usual self. Despite all the hassles of 'the music business' Kevin was one of the originals who took hard knocks to perform hard rocks!
Kevin Dubro... if my hunch is correct, you and guitarist Randy Rhoads (December 6, 1956 – March 19, 1982) have already booked a few gigs in heaven. I'm sure it's standing room only in the largest venue you have ever seen.
For those who may have lived under a rock in the early 80's. Quiet Riot with the help of MTV were one of the first musical acts to bring Metal to the world... What irks the shit out of me, is every other 'Johnny-come-lately' metal band after Quiet Riot has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.... yet QR has been ignored. Why is this?
Kevin has dedicated some 40 year of his life to music, performing to sell-out arenas of hundreds of thousands of screaming fans... he knew how to rock the house.
Here is the original video of Quiet Riot in their 1983 smash hit Cum On Feel The Noize

Sorry to hear. Question for you . I have always heard that Randy was with Quiet Riot before Ozzy, but had never heard any of the bands stuff with Randy. Were they a different sounding band pre and post Randy Rhodes? The first I had heard of the band is when they came out withy the cum feel the noise album, and although Ithough they had a decent lead guitar player, there music sounded very much like a fluffy hair band. Not sure if any of their other stuff had more substance?

Ken, Thanks. It comes as a shock.
Randy had departed for Ozzieland somewhere around 1980 and QR reformed. The 1982-4 lineup was:
Kevin Dubrow, Lead vocals Carlos,Cavazo, Lead guitar Rudy Sarzo, Bass guitar Frankie Banali, Drums
Each member of QR was very talented and they were in the right place at the right time for success. I think, the music was geared more for 'what the audience wanted' than what they preferred to play.
Album sales were only driven by road tours and they were under pressure by the record companies to crank out new albums on a regular basis. They seemed to only have 1 or 2 good songs make it to each album and sadly they became old news rather quickly. They were still buying million-dollar light shows and new stage equipment as the tour dates were being canceled.
I've seen them (Kevin, Carols, Rudy, Frankie) perform a number of times in the last 12 years and the only 'bad show' was due to equipment problems and not performance problems. In the early days, all their own equipment was trucked setup and taken down for every performance. Their schedule now, they could easily criss-cross across the country a few times a week playing different one night venues and all their equipment is rented in the city where they are performing.
This recent performance with only Kevin and Frankie as original members was as good or better than most 'tight' club bands. Frankie (who I put the closest style to John Bonham) was especially good playing to his hometown friends/fans.
There are a few Randy Rhoads/Quiet Riot videos on YouTube... and it seemed (to me) Randy's influence always kept him in the spotlight.
Here's Quiet Riot with Randy in Picking Up The Pieces.
