In California schools, if a boy feels like he is a girl (or says he feels so....), he can use the girls' bathrooms, or locker rooms....
Last month, Governor Schwarzenegger signed SB 777 into law, by which gender is defined by individual choice, regardless of a person's biological attributes.
Bob Tyler, general counsel with Advocates for Faith and Freedom, contends the bill violates privacy rights of students throughout California's public schools. He also says the law will leave children vulnerable to predators who will use the law just to get a "look-see" at other people.
"It's ridiculous that a young girl would be required to share private facilities such as restrooms, or locker rooms, or other private locations with a male, when society has always separated males and females in certain situations in order to protect the privacy of these kids," argues Tyler. "This bill just defies common sense."
In the same state, “mom and dad” as well as “husband and wife” are now banned from the school vocabulary, in order to not discriminate against children who have two moms and no dad, or two dads and no mom, etc.
Are we going toward a new "norm".... with same-gender parents? I always thought that the "norm" is defined by the majority, and that's what should be used in schools.
I guess I was wrong....

No one knows how many laws their are in this country, but few if any are ever removed. I often thought how nice it would be at the Federal, State and County level if once each decade they would write no new laws but just cull a lot of worthless laws.
You cannot legislate behavior, if you try you will end up writing laws upon laws because behavior is multifaceted. Somehow our legislatures have forgotten the basic test of any law, does it meet the common sense threshold and is it enforceable.
The tragedy of this law it places way to much power in the hands of educators many of which cannot even pass the common sense rules unto their own interaction with students.

I do think it's a bit extreme. As a victim of sexual abuse, I would not want my daughter sharing the bathroom with any male. I don't care if he feels like a girl.... he still has a penis. Enough said!

hi travel, it's not quite that simple. Apparently you just can't feel like you are girl for a couple minutes to gain access to a girl restroom (important pervert update).
But have to be living as a woman etc. I first leaped when I heard this too, but decided to look up more info.
