Sometimes I have a hard time buying into it. I know I should, but sometimes its too hard, painful and surreal. A few days ago I was talking to my sister in New Hampshire, and she told me some most sad news. My 14 year old niece has been in gymnastics since she was a four year old. She has had the same best friend since then, attending meets etc . They were inseperable. The other night after a meet, my brother in law took my niece and her friend out to dinner to celebrate, and was a very nice normal night. He dropped her off, my niece said goodbye, and just like typical giddy teenage girls they laughed the whole night and talked about boys. The next morning my sister received a call , the little girl had collapsed at breakfast and was taken to Children's in Boston, and not sure of the status. Noone knew what had happened, but she was in a coma. My sister brought my niece and some other friends to the hospital to visit her, and she was unresponsive. .......yesterday she passed away, and an autopsy is planned, but they can find no cause of death right now. I am so in awe of how stoic my niece is and she will be reciting the eulogy at the funeral. 14 years old.! How proud I am of her and how strong she is. Things happen for a reason sometimes, but other times you cannot convince me . You cannot tell me this makes sense, and try telling my niece this. Try telling these grieving parents this!!!!!!!! Its just wrong. ....peace

It is so heartbreaking when someone so young dies for no apparent reason...it's even worse with Christmas just right around the corner.
I will send up a prayer to your niece and for the family of the young lady.

The answer to the "reason," only God knows. She is an angel in Heaven with Him now.

so sorry to hear of your loss.....I truly understand your niece though- this is the miracle of youth- the gift of acceptance is something we lose in maturity. Maturity- I wonder why they call it that. I send you peace-

Oh how sad for your niece and her friends family.
I recommend grief counseling, even if she seems to be okay. I never got it and I suffered.... for a long time with grief I think I could have worked through with some professional advice. That is just me though.
I always try to think of it the way most have said, she is in no more pain, no more sorrow, but with God.

No, everything doesn't happen "for a reason". Most things "just happen". Period. But if someone can learn something -- even if it's just about themselves -- from tragedies, perhaps giving it a "reason" label is useful in the long run...to some.
~sigh~ My heart goes out to the parents, your niece, her friends...and to you and your sis. "Mystery deaths", especially that of a child, has got to be the hardest of anyones "life challenges".

I have to agree with Sun babe. Things don't happen "for a reason"..... they just happen. There is almost always something that can be learned from any situation. Might be good.... might not.......
IF you meet the parents, by all means share a memory of their child. So many think it is too painful to talk about a lost child. It is..... but to not talk about them is to begin forgetting them. What they are left with are the memories.... which should be told with love. .02

My Prayers Are With All of You - there are no amount of words or explanations to take away the pain - we only know that the person that passes on will live in our hearts always.

I'm not certain that things always happen for a reason, as in purpose. I do, however, believe that everything in this life happens just how it is meant to happen according to the Universe, because otherwise, things would have happened differently...
This philosophy, of course, does not necessarily make grief easier to cope with. My condolences...
