The squirrels, birds, deer, aall our wildlife is being affected by all the building and trees being torn down.It is so sad to see them trying to get enough food for survival. It is colder here this year than last year was. I hope the people who want to do all this building wake up and think about what they are doing to all the wildlife, before we have none at all.
Beautiful blog.

there is an enormous pecan tree in my back yard. I have seen very few critters so far this year. there were no pecans on the tree because of last years late cold spell. But, it breaks my heart to know that the old pecan tree will be cut down this summer to make way for more parking for the church behind me. They bought the old house next door and all the lovely trees will be history.. the magnolia's, and the walnut trees will be destroyed too. I don't think I want to be here when they start chopping..

I feel as much sorrow for the survival of urban people as I do for the struggles of its wildlife to survive.Theyre lives are so unprivate they are buying up valuble farm and woodland wasting thousands of acres building driveways and homes.Soon country wildlife will suffer the same as the urban wildlife. Ive noticed how self-centered these people that relocate to the country are because of increased population in the city.Country folk will always return a wave as your passing by on the road, relocated city folk dont even look.

sci, you're such a marvelous writer!
The squirrels have plenty to eat here - my neighborhood is loaded with pecan trees, and many pecans are buried in a shallow graves in my flower beds and back yard. Those which miss the Winter retrieval will sprout in the Spring, but they're few, and I don't mind clearing up.
I laugh when I see a pecan encased in green with one chomp out of the middle, discarded on the sidewalk.....that must have been a bitter bite, then hurled over a tiny furry shoulder!
a kudo for you!

Last night I had a babysitting job in a very nice well populated neighborhood area in the city. Nothing but houses for miles around but when I left there last night 3 deer jumped out in front of me. I seen the first two running and stopped as the next one followed. Scared me because it was a close call. Savannah was with me and she says,"Oh no they aren't suppose to be here but people have run them out of their home."

My Mother and I have always made sure that the critters were fed, not just by feeders, but also by planting various plants and trees. This year my Mother was very upset, in her neighborhood quite a few people have cats that they haven't fixed and of course the cat population has increased...the squirrels have decreased.
