This night was unbelievable..after going to my sons school awards in the AM (honor roll again ) and then rushing to watch my youngest daughter perform at the senior center to sing carols for their luncheon I finally made it back home to run play a little online and relax and bask in my glow of seeing my kids do great things... THEN . my youngest came home from school with a note .. her project had been chosen to be entered in the science fair . Only six from each class were chosen....and the judging and science fair awards were tonight oooo kayyy so we rearrange our night a bit to go... now here is where the history of science fairs in my little family comes into play... My oldest daughter now 19 won her 5th grade science fair and went to district then my son who is now 13 (well end of the month) took first place also in 5th grade and went to district where he placed bronze so last year my youngest who was then 9 entered... she didn't place but did not give up... she put her heart and soul into the project this year... so we get there and are listening to all the awards being given out... they explain that this year they had brought in science teachers from a few middles schools and high schools to judge them so as to be unbiased ..cool deal... so anyway .. standing there camera at the ready...I'm waiting... waiting... they read off and award Kinder thru 4th... so I turn on the camera... thinking after viewing some of the projects that she should at least place...and that is really all she hoped for .. they announce 3rd place.. a kid from her class and my heart sunk usually more than one winner from the same class is rare... so I'm thinking oh well she tried really hard and did her best... then they call the second place...yep a kid from another class ... and I sit holding my breath...Then the Principal says... "and our fifth grade 1st place winner in the 3 annual science fair is.... Marina T. I'm hooting and hollering and filming and I didn't know it I was crying...She comes up to me after she got her medal and says "Mom yer crying." I say " I am?" shes says "yeah I know you are proud of me but everyone is looking " and i hug her so tight she said I almost squeezed her head off haha .. I'm so damn proud of all my kids and its these kind of things that let me know that I'm doing a good job raising my kids... that give me a sense of acknowledgment that I have taught my kids well ... so yeah Im braggin here a bit but dammit I have made sure these kids live up to their potential . I have devoted myself into making sure they learn MORE than they teach in school.. and to question EVERYTHING..( my bane at times ) But when they do things like this all the work and sacrifices are worth it.. To have them realize that hard work DOES pay off and that they can accomplish things beyond the norm and strive to better themselves always
