.. is a quote from my morning's Bible reading.

(Matthew 6:33-34) 33 “Keep on, then, seeking first the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these [other] things will be added to YOU. 34 So, never be anxious about the next day, for the next day will have its own anxieties. Sufficient for each day is its own badness.

It is also, though I heard it from a different translation at the time, one of the first things I had heard from the Bible that really struck a chord in me.

I'd heard other things that sounded mysterious or sweet or kind or what have you, but this was both amazingly funny and chock full of good sense.

Which just goes to show that it pays to wonder what people are on about when they say things you don't quite understand. Because people were always saying 'One day at a time...' and there was even a show named that, so I knew they were getting that saying from somewhere!

I think the curious mind will study and find out these things, why people do and say what they do and what they say, even if it is only for the sake of learning. And, I think it takes a curious mind, a discerning mind, to draw closer to God.

For there are nuances in the Holy Scriptures, things that are easy to think you understand and to accept at face value. Actually most of it can also be taken at face value, but even so, if you learn a little history, think a little deeper, the sentences blossom with richer meaning.

Read something about Howard Stern last night, where he was saying how simple the Bible was, because it was all God did this or that because he was God and with no other explanation. Well, that's the surface level stuff, alright. But, you keep reading, and asking questions and seeking for answers to those questions, and there are some very in depth explanations of things.

But one thing you'll learn is that because He is God and he wants to do it is a very good explanation for most things. I mean, why do people have children? I mean people who do it on purpose, by the way.

They do it because there is an urge to create someone, an urge to love this being that doesn't even exist yet. Is that logical? Not really. But no one says those parents don't exist just because it didn't make sense that they wanted to love their child before it was born and it led them to the act of creation.

He is God; He wanted to create ... and He wanted everyone who was with Him to be there by their own free will. That's also surface level stuff. The personality behind that, the way in which it is being accomplished, etc.: for that you have to study.

Two of my favorite authors on Christianity are CS Lewis (Mere Christianity) and Emmett Fox (Sermon on the Mount). They were both written after the great depression, when men-- their financial bedrock having failed them-- were compelled to explore spiritual ideas. I don't believe it's possible to 'know' God-- I do pretty well to know myself, but that at one ment (atonement) leads me to God...... very thought provoking, good blog!

I think it's very possible to know God. He's a person, with distinct personality traits, wants, desires, hopes, goals .. in the Bible it says he can be angered, he can be hurt, he can be disgusted by our actions, and he can be proud of our accomplishments and he did call Abraham his friend.

Plus Jesus said that if you behold him, you behold God .. he was, and is, called the perfect reflection of God; and Jesus was very knowable!

I think God wants us to know him, as a person, not just as a figurehead.. so that when we say we love him it is not based solely on ideals but on who he really is to us.

And the Apostles, you know, as well as Jesus, called God something which the closest English equivalent to it is 'Daddy' not just 'Father' It was a term of affection that you do not use to denote a rank, but to show that this person is something to you more than their position.

Thank you!

We don't go much for Welsh cakes at this time of year.
It's mainly mince pies

Wow! You know, I was at the store and saw some of the more first class mince pie mix (in a jar) and thought about you and your Welsh Cakes. Must by why it reminded me, then!

Silly ol' me!

The other day when I came down the stairs in darkness and stubbed my toe on the stack of ceramic tiles left in the hallway, I should have moved them.

Today when I came down the stairs in darkness and cracked my shin on the stack of ceramic tiles left in the hallway, I wish I had.

Why is there a stack of ceramic tiles in the hallway to begin with? And will you break them into weird sized pieces and then mail them to me? lol
