Something I threw together. I tried to be original and Raleigh specific. Enjoy!
You know you’re from Raleigh if:
- You bristle when an outsider doesn’t pronounce it RAW-leigh. - You’ve wondered when the construction would end on I-40. - You’ve wondered when the construction would end downtown. - You’ve gotten lost in Cary. - You know what CARY stands for. - When someone mentions Wake Forest, you assume they mean the town. - You pay a tax on your dog. - You actually prayed for a hurricane or storm because your yard and plants are dying. - You call it “Falls Of THE Neuse Road” even though it’s legally “Falls Of Neuse Road”. - You know what “inner loop” and “outer loop” means. - You know the location of every BBQ and steakhouse in the city. - You’ve been to Krispy Kreme, Snoopy’s, Char-Grill, and the snowball stand in the same week. Perhaps even in the same day. - Schools have been closed due to snow flurries (or threat of). - Schools have been closed due to hurricanes. - You’ve had strangers ask you how far Raleigh is from Mayberry. - You’ve developed an itchy brake foot pedal reflex thanks to the red light cameras. - You have a love/hate relationship with year-round school schedules. - Even though it’s changed names, you know what “The Dollhouse” is. - Someone mentions going out for chicken, and you automatically assume it’s Bojangles. - You recommend “South Of The Border” to your out-of-town friends and relatives as a getaway destination. - Acorns made for great childhood ammunition. - Your car or your friend’s has a vacation spot euro sticker (i.e., OBX, TI, HHI, etc) - You work in RTP, yet you claim you almost never go to Durham. - You wonder when commuter train service will start up so that you can make a quicker drive to work in your car. - You highlight state fair week on your calendar. - You highlight ACC Basketball Tournament time on your calendar. - Things are tense at the office when Carolina plays State or Duke. - When someone mentions “The Mall”, you assume they mean Crabtree Valley. - You remember when North Hills was actually an indoor shopping mall. - You know someone who relocated here from New York, but you don’t know where to go for good New York or Chicago style pizza.
