Each and every Christmas, I catch myself doing the very things I say I WON"T do....like working overtime at the office, or doing my Christmas shopping at the very last minute, or getting grumpy out in all the traffic and shopping lines....and the list goes on and on... Why do we do the things we DON"T want to do, and then don't do the things we WANT to do? It's as though we sink into some kind of hypnotic trance over the holidays.....glassy eyes and all! Lol! This year my 16 yr old came to me and had the "NERVE" to ask me if we could break our traditions and do something different on Christmas Day...DIFFERENT?? Why doesn't she KNOW that I am carrying on the traditions of the family? How could I do that? My grandmother would roll over in her grave! "What would you like to do?" I asked her...."Well....." she said...."I want to go out for Chinese this Christmas, because all the Chinese restaurants are open on Christmas Day, and that is what I want to do." My heart BE STILL!! I think that I may pass out.....What kind of Christmas would it be...I mean going out to eat Chinese??? Then I pondered for a moment, and began to snicker a little...."Well..." I said....."I have always wanted to go to the movies on Christmas, but never have...so Maybe....just maybe.....?" I felt like the Grinch who stole Christmas....so empowered....so rebellious!! Muahahahah....".LET'S DO IT!! Let's break all of our Christmas traditions and do what we want to do.." I giggled.....after all ....it will be this Christmas she...my daughter will always remember....the Christmas we ate Chinese out and went to the movies when all is said and done....the together time...the laughter, and the love we shared.... Christmas is all about love anyway......"For unto us a child is born...."

We broke with a tradition 10 years ago or so, and my somewhat stuffy step-mother is rebelling against it now. It's the only tradition, my sisters and I have started. It's the only tradition we really have anymore.
So, start your new traditions, keep an eye on some of the old ones, but don't be afraid to start new ones! That's what I say... for what it's worth.

Thanks for the tip , I will suggest it to my family. I'd like to go to the movies, eat out and not be home at all for a change! Keep you posted on the response!

I agree! I told my sons, one day you will start your own traditions, just like I did.
Just remember the reason for the season.
Welcome back my friend, I missed your smiling face.

I could never leave out Jesus in Christmas....He always comes first.....not just on Christmas, but everyday... I just wanted to write a light hearted blog.....because it really took alot from this girl to break away and do something different for once...it is freeing....
