Yesterday was Christmas. Many people visited friends and family, exchanged gifts, decorated their homes, put up Christmas trees and had a big dinner. Then there were others who use this holiday to make money among other things. Christmas is suppose to be a holiday to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for all of man kind and we reward Him by completely commercializing His own birthday. What does Santa have to do with Jesus? What do christmas lights have to do with Jesus? In fact, some homes go to such extremes with their displays that some of them look like some sort of candyland. How many people are standing in lines today, returning things that were given to them just a day ago. So much about the saying 'it's the thought that counts'. The world has become too materialized. I wonder how many people actually had thoughts of Jesus during Christmas? I wonder how many people gave praise to Jesus for what He did for us? It is sad to think, but I do not think the percentage of people that have these thoughts is very high. Jesus is becoming almost lost on the minds of people and with the troubles in the world today, we need him more then ever.

I completely agree with you. It also annoys me when people say Happy Holidays... if they dont want to celebrate Christmas, thats fine, but dont change Christs birthday to another name to suit themselves.

No offence to anyone but this was a holiday long before it was Christian one .. A Paan Holiday... dont you think the world has room for all beliefs ?

Its the Winter Solstice to Druids & has been for longer then Christmas

Pre-Christian origins
A winter festival was traditionally the most popular festival of the year in many cultures. Reasons included less agricultural work needing to be done during the winter, as well as people expecting longer days and shorter nights after the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere.[1] In part, the Christmas celebration was created by the early Church in order to entice pagan Romans to convert to Christianity without losing their own winter celebrations.[2][3] Most of the most important gods in the religions of
Ishtar and Mithra had their birthdays on December 25.

* The 25th December was celebrated in ancient days as the birthday of the unconquerable SUN god, (variously know as Tammuz, Mithra, Saturn, Adonis or BAAL) centuries before Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem.
* Nowhere in the Bible are believers in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob required to celebrate Christmas.
* The early Christian church did not celebrate Christmas. Instead it celebrated the sacred festivals mentioned in the Bible, in Leviticus chapter 23.
* In order to win Gentile converts to the Christian faith, the Roman Church, centuries after the apostolic era, adopted this ancient pagan winter festival of the SUN god and renamed it 'Christmas' mistakenly thinking that it would honour the SON of God.
* Scholars have for centuries known these facts. They can be confirmed in any reference library.

The 25th of December was also the birthday of the Roman god Mithras () and the Greek hero Dionysus. Mithras was known as the unconquered sun, hence his association with the solstice time. Early Christianity adopted the 25th as Christ's birthday around the 3rd or 4th century BC birthday, as the early scriptures do not record the day of Christ's birth. This is generally accepted to have been a way of amalgamating Christmas with the older festival of the sun, which was still being observed by the Pagan community. It also helped to replace the worship of Mithras, which once rivalled Christianity in popularity.

The good news is, Jesus wasn't born in dec, actually he was born in june.

Christ is never forgotten in my heart or in the way his teaching have affected my life in a beautiful way. Yet, Christ-mas is about giving and thinking about others, therefore his teachings are still be taught whether we acknowledge them or not.

More people go to Church during this season, they are far less selfish, they give out more hug and love to others then they do the entire rest of the year.

On top of most tree are angels, parents spent more time thinking about their kids and playing with them, then they might otherwise.

I hear more songs about Christ during this period.

The world does have room for all beliefs, but no one is celebrating December 25 other then it being Christmas. You can bring up all the history you want, all the beliefs as well, but as Americans celebrating December 25, how many are celebrating for any other reason besides Christmas?

DG is proving my point. He states that Christmas is a holiday for people to take time off of work and have a meal. In other words, it is no different then Thanksgiving. Funny though, where is the commercialization of Thanksgiving the way Christmas has become commercialized?

Yeah, let's not let Truth get in the way of celebrating a pagan holiday...I mean we wouldn't want Jesus knocking over the money changers tables again...ok, sarcasm buttons off!

I have wondered myself, why things have turned out the way they have. CHRISTmas is Jesus' birthday. The way we do with people, and the love on CHRISTmas, needs to be a year round thing. What happened to hand made gifts, from the heart? Why are we making others rich, and puttin' ourselves in a rut financially? That is not the way God intended things to be. I think we all should reflect on things, and really think about how happy we are with our kids, and with life at CHRISTmas time. Don't we want that all year, instead of just once a year? God bless you all.
