"The women I've known I wouldn't let tie my shoe..." is a line from Rod Stewart's song Every Picture Tells a Story. Written by Rod Stewart & Ron Wood, appearing on Rod's 1971 solo album, Every Picture Tells a Story. I think this lyric came at a time when when Rod had come from musical obscurity and was climbing the ladder of success.
As 2007 comes to a close, I'm in reminiscing mode, reflecting back on previous years, thinking of previous goals, accomplishments. This year has been both a upswing and downswing year for me. For many months, I've been working on 8 luxury kitchen projects in the heart of Coconut Grove. Since Thanksgiving, four have been installed, the fifth installation begins today and two kitchens are waiting in the warehouse for the marble flooring contractor to finish so we can go in... these will install around the middle to end of January. Financially this is a good thing for me even though the contractor slated this project to finish before this past summer. Thankfully, I was able to stay busy doing other small jobs. Sometimes good things change and things must end. The Real Estate market in Florida has all but shut down. Most of the new home contractors have fired their staff and are struggling to survive. They have the land, they have the resources... all they need is new home buyers. The latest forecast predicts 2010 is the year the housing market will rebound. That's a long time 'look for work' until something comes your way. Fortunately, I've got 30 years of drafting and project management background, a lateral switch to the custom furniture end of the business is my next move. I'll be dealing with wealthy clients who are less affected by the changes in the economy. I was earning more money 10 years ago, but I try not to look at things with a sour note, is a matter or readjustment to the current conditions, staying focused and seeking other opportunities.
This morning, I was listening to some of Rod Stewart's music. I first heard Rod Stewart's voice on the 1968 Jeff Beck album entitled TRUTH, however the truth was Beck was (and probably still is) an egomaniac, son-of-a-bitch to work with. I read a story/interview about Stewart in a musician's magazine saying that Rod and Ron when touring with Beck, were eating hard boiled egg sandwiches and Beck was having steak dinners. I always admired Rod & Ron for having to put up with a primadonna like that.
After leaving the Jeff Beck Group, Rod and Ron joined The Faces and achieved the recognition they so righteously deserved. As time went on, Rod Stewart went solo and Ron Wood joined The Rolling Stones... each having musically and financially successful careers. Things were bad in the beginning, but they found other opportunities... (trivia: Beck was asked to join The Rolling Stones but declined before Ron Wood took the job.)
Rod Stewart will be celebrating his 63rd birthday on January 10th. He made some great music over the years. One of my favorites is the reunion of Beck and Stewart many years after their 'breakup' they recorded the old 1965 (Curtis Mayfield & The Impressions) gospel song >> PEOPLE GET READY <<
Rod also hooked up with his friend Ron for an unplugged version of >> EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY <<
Although I prefer the album version >> Every Picture Tells A Story <<
Happy New Year to all. Wishing you the best for 2008.
