How many of you believe in or have had experiences you cannot explain, either psychic or paranormal? Or do you think it is pure bunk?

If you have had experiences, share them here and tell us what you think. If you are a skeptic, you are equally welcome to share your views on the subject. Later on, I'll share a few of my own experiences and thoughts as to the mechanisms that may underlie these odd events... I've done a number of paranormal investigations using the TAPS-style investigative technique and run a small group that does this sort of research and am curious to see what folks here on MD think about all of this...

i'm a believer! when i was young, my mom got hold of a demon on a ouija board. he absolutely hated my dad and tried a couple of times to hurt him. one time in particular i remember clearly. dad had come home drunk again, and mom was upset. at that time we lived in a kitchenette and dad was sitting on the bed. he bent over to get a cigarette and right then the light fixture came loose from the roof and swung down, just missing dad's head.

when it was checked, the screws were still in the metal and no holes were stripped or torn.

animals are sensitve to ghosts/invisible ghoulies. my mom's dog would sit in front of the empty rocker with a ball in his mouth wanting to play. he just stared at the empty chair. all of a sudden the chair would rock, like someone got out of it. mom's dogs eyes followed something into the bedroom. he then dropped the ball and proceeded to fall asleep.

i've had many more experiences. one day i may write about them.

btw, ghost hunters is one of my favorite shows. can't wait til january when they go global for searches!

Believe--YES
Experiences--YES

I think it would be so cool to go in and investigate like that.. My kids and I were talking about visiting a few "haunted" bed and breakfasts this summer just so we could try to catch something.. There are supposed to be several out by the Lancaster area and towards Philly..

I personally believe ghosts are just the spirits of the dead. I am not a ghost expert and have no clue why they feel the need to visit us sometimes. I probably never would have believed in ghosts or as I see them spirits of those who have passed on if I had not seen one for myself.

It was 2 days after my grandpa had passed away and I was very close to him and was still crying, upset and just bummed about him passing away. I did nothing but cry through his whole funeral service. I still cry to this day when I think about him. I already missed him so much. I woke up suddenly that night for no reason and what looked to be my grandpa was sitting at the foot of my bed, I remember not feeling scared and feeling warmth and love and he seemed to be radiating an orange light around him and he never said anything and hardly moved just looked at me and smiled just as if to say he loves me and he is watching over me and then he was just gone, it was only for a few seconds. That is how I interpreted it anyways. I think he saw me so upset over his passing that he wanted to comfort me maybe...I did find it comforting and he is in my heart now and always..some day I will be with him again in heaven.. Another thing I sometimes smell a perfume like my grandma wore or smell a flower scent and wonder if it is my grandma, she was cremated and I have her ashes in my house.. there is more but I could go on forever and not going to bore you...plus am getting sleepy.. take care..

I have gone on ghost tours and taken orb pictures. I kept cleaning and checking the lenses but nothing was on the lens. My sister took a picture of me in my mother and stepdad's house after they and three of their pets had died there. Five orbs showed in that picture. Two large (Mom and Doug), two medium (Old English Sheepdog) and one real small (cat sized) one. They were not real life sized but as compared to each other, it fit.
When my Mom passed, I saw the portal open and her angels come in then she died. She was in a coma at the time. When I saw the angels, she stopped breathing. Earlier either that day or the day before, I felt her brushing my hair the way I did to her. She was in the coma at the time. No one was there behind me. Yet it was impossible that I imagined it. It was too real.
I saw her hours later after she passed. She came back in looking different but I knew who it was. Sat down next to me. Radiating peace and Light.

ABSOLUTELY! "Ghosts" are merely souls of departed people. Nothing mysterious about it. Some choose to be earthbound and most do not but all our loved ones from the higher planes come to visit us from time to time to see how we're doing and communicate with us if we're open.

I have many, many stories about seeing spirits and communicating with them as well. I had a Near Death Experience at the age of 12 and two days later discovered I was 'gifted' with 'second sight' or whatever you want to call it.

I have seen orbs and spirits. No doubt they exist and we will be together with our loved ones when we pass.

I believe there is a spirit world. Twice, I have had the spirits of a friend and a family member who have passed on come and bid me goodbye. Once, it sounded like a pebble rolling down the roof. That was for my first husband's uncle. The next morning when I was having my REM sleep, I saw him lying in his casket. I didn't even know he was dead yet. Another time, a good friend of our family passed away from Cancer. I used to pray for him and try to encourage him when he was alive. He came and knocked on our door. I heard the knock but my (then) husband didn't. Two days later, I found out that what I had assumed was correct ... the gentleman had passed on and had come to bid me goodbye.
I had a trucker-friend tell me once that he was driving with a full load. A car cut him off. He knew he would not be able to stop. He slammed on the brakes and held on tight. He said that all he could think of was that his truck was going to run right over the car and crush it to smithereens. He just held on to his steering wheel real tight. His truck stopped after an eternity. He did not hear the crunch of metal. He saw his "pillows" come flying forward out of his sleeper. After his truck stopped, he started to shake. He looked around to see where his pillows went to so he could pick them up and put them back in his sleeper. His pillows were in his sleeper. He told me it was then that he realized that what he had seen was not pillows but angels. He said that he saw "white." That is why he thought he saw his pillows.
I was an LPN for a number of years and I worked night shift in a hospital. I saw all kinds of stuff go on that I will not get into here. I DO believe that there is a spirit world. I also believe that there are good spirits and evil spirits. They are alive and well!
Sometimes I think that the spirits of our dearly departed are really OUR angels as it were. I think that they protect us in situations which are life or death-related. I will stop here.

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy."
Hamlet Act 1, scene 5

I'm with Hamlet (or rather Shakespeare) there is too much out there we can not explain.
And we certainly don't know what happens after death.

I believe, we had a ghost in the house I grew up in and I saw him once and heard him several times. There is also one now in the house I am currently living in..........he likes to move chairs and turn on light switches.

It seems to be my night for short stories. I have had several strange encounters. But my most amusing story comes from the house I lived in just prior to moving where I am living now. There was a particularly annoying poltergiest in residence of my apt. The house was originally built in 1922, it had been added onto several times, at one point it had been a county jail, a group home, a trasitional house for sex offenders, and was transitional housing for those just getting out of long term prison sentences when I managed it. My apt. was part of an add on that was "L" shaped. There was about an 8' hallway from the living room to where it took a left to go down to the bedroom. The hall was wide about 8'. One side was lined with shelves. That is where I kept my food seperate from the central kitchen which we all shared. This entity loved to throw things off the shelves. Not slip off the shelves... throw things. LOL Sometimes as fast as I could put them back up. It was totally annoying. I kept trying to tell my property manager about it and she always poo pooed my story. One afternoon she had come in to use my bathroom (which was the first room after you took the left to my bedroom). She had stopped in the hall yakking her head off on some rant. (which she was prone to do) and a pkg. of Top Ramen, came off the shelf. I just looked at her and raised my eyebrows. She just looked at me and said it had fallen, I said ok....she bent to pick it up and another one came off the shelf. LOL. She said "we need to have maintenance come and level these shelves". I just smiled....bout that time she got hit upside the head with a box of cereal...*snickers* ...a box of crackers, as she started to step out of the hall with wide eyes saying something about the canned goods, the key box popped off the other wall. LOL I didn't get a chance to say "I told you so" she huffed off saying she would not come back into that apt. I thought good I already have to share the kitchen, the bathroom is mine. LOL After that incident the food throwing stopped but the key box remained an issue I finally just moved it. It was not too long after I moved the key box when I got this job. I got all unpacked and took pictures to show a friend my new house, when I put them on my computer there were orbs all over my stairs. I got a little pissy thinking here we go again, and demanded some down time. I took another set of pictures about ten minutes later and not an orb one. Sometimes you just want your space. LOL

There is a very ancient church in Gluckstadt Ms that dates back to the French settlers in the 1700s, Chapel of the Cross. We went there ghost hunting one windy spooky night when the Spanish moss was blowing in the cedars. There was supposed to be the ghost of a Confederate widow weeping over a grave. We sat a short distance from there and watched.
The wind stopped and it became very still. I was both skeptical and a bit nervous, so I said, aloud
"What'sa matter, afraid of the living?"
A tree limb above the grave jerked real hard, like someone yanked it and I began having a burning pain in my lower abdomen. The pain got worse in the course of the evening until the next morning I had to go to the emergency room. I had appendicitis and my appendix burst and gave me peritonitis which nearly did me in.
I don't pick on ghosts anymore.
