A few years ago, before the heaviest onslaught of Parkinson's disease, my dad was with my mom, and about to take a trip somewhere. Mom was about to take a shower so after she had dumped all the ice from the freezer into the cooler she said, Everett, would you mind refilling the ice trays?" He said he would, so she took her shower and after about 15 minutes returned to find him very carefully replacing the ice, cube by cube, in the trays. She said it was very hard not to laugh so she bit her tongue to regain her composure and said, "Dear, I usually find it faster to add water to the trays" He agreed and very amicably complied.

Humor is the best medicine... steven

My former Best Friend? His father is now late in stages of Parkinsons. He can no longer swallow, no longer manage on his own.

Humor..I'll remind my Tall friend, about HUMOR.
It terrifies his pride, not knowing what to do...

Reading this gives me mixed emotions. It is cute AND funny in a way, and maybe good for a chuckle or two. People who suffer from diseases like Parkinson's that affect the brain are usually blissfully unaware that anything is wrong or amiss. I think this is a covering of protection that nature provides the ones that are affected. It is like a shield on a person's heart and soul, as it were. Yes, it may be funny to some, but if these people were able to reason in their "right" mind, they would probably be embarrassed by their behavior. I wonder just how many people have thought of this angle of the puzzle? Interesting, isn't it?
Occasionally, I do silly things that I even laugh at myself for. A sense of humor always helps. It is one thing to do something for laughs when you are fully aware, but yet another to do something that appears funny, yet not even know that something is wrong. I am in a deep thinking frame of mind. I hope you don't mind my introspective thought.

There are times when I wish more people had your mother's sense of "let's find a way to let ___________ know that though that is not quite what I meant when I asked for help...." instead of what many might in becoming angry and P.O.'d about the gesture.

What I mean is that your mom averted what could have been a very upsetting moment for both her and your dad about his action and turned it into a very understanding and tender moment. Kudos for her....
