“ ...the senses alone are not implicitly to be depended on. We must correct their evidence by reason, and by considerations, derived from the nature of the medium, the distance of the object, and the disposition of the organ, in order to render them, within their sphere, the proper criteria of truth and falsehood. ”
“ All arguments concerning existence are founded on the relation of cause and effect; that our knowledge of that relation is derived entirely from experience; and all our experimental conclusions proceed upon the supposition that the future will be conformable to the past. .... Without the influence of custom, we should be entirely ignorant of every matter of fact beyond what is immediately present to the memory and senses. ”
“ Experience only teaches us, how one event constantly follows another; without instructing us in the secret connexion, which binds them together, and renders them inseparable. ”
David Hume ~

Gautama Buddha always taught that all is Mara (Maya) or illusion, the point he was making is that our senses can trick us sometimes, and even if our perceptions are accurate, two different "perceivers" can have two different perceptions, two viewpoints, as it were. I like to take long walks around my neighborhood and meditate as I walk. One method is, I try to think without words, that is, silence the conversation in my mind. When I find that point of silence, suddenly everything becomes one. Where there is no language, no labels to separate one "thing" from another, there is the realization that everything is one continuous field of being, that tree and yard are not separate, there is "tree/yard/house/air/bird/dirt/grass..." . Basically, a oneness of being. The Tibetans call this Dharma Kaya. I don't call it anything.

"A compassionate soul will travel great distances and scale high walls in order to understand another point of view"
A sign that should be hung above the gates of Guantanamo Bay.
