Barack Obama is a current member of a Christian church. The fact that his father was a non-practicing Muslim and enrolled him in a Muslim school for 2 years, from ages 6-8, 40 years ago, is such a NON-issue that it disgusts me when the neocons continually try to imply it has any relevance. I cannot state more strongly that I think only a complete moron would think it is an issue. Only the badly misinformed or deliberately misleading (read LIARS) would keep referring to Islam as "his religion." The only more disgusting tactic they continually parade is to keep using his middle name (s) and calling him Barack Mohammad Hussein Obama, as if he chose the name himself or as if his parents' choice of names makes him Muslim (or that even if he were Muslim it would matter). .

Anyone with any intelligence is so disgusted by this tactic that it further lowers the neocons credibility every time they bring it up. (And I really didn't think it could get any lower.)

You can call people "stupid" or anything else you want, but that doesn't make it so. Fact is, he had an islamic upbringing. What consequences that implies for the american nation is pure conjecture. I believe he is from Kenya. If he becomes president, we certainly can look forward to pumping millions if not more billions into "helping" the african nations. No, I'm not voting for Obama bin Ladin. No, I'm not voting for Hillary. Put her in the pillory.

How can they talk about his education, when his foot-in-mouth speeches show he didn't take it seriously.

They should be talking about his lack of serious track record, and about who will pay for his social programs.

In the interests of promoting truth:
Barack Obama was born in Hawaii. It was already a state. He is an American-born citizen. His father was from Kenya, his mother from Kansas. His stepfather was from Indonesia, and he and his mother moved there with his stepfather, where he lived from ages 6-10, after which he returned to live in Honolulu with his grandparents. Mr. Obama is not and never has been "from Kenya."

At least with his islamic background, he might have a better idea of how to deal with the middle east. BTW, did someone say that Hilary has cahoneys?

Fact is, he had an islamic upbringing

And, as he grew up, he chose to convert from non-practicing Muslim-upbringing to practicing Christian.

Wouldn't you call that a success story? Someone examined both religions, and decided that Christianity was more relevant to themselves than Islam.

and about who will pay for his social programs.

I suppose it will be YOU and Me with a little help from a trillion dollar PEACE dividend and a little gap closing on corporate welfare. Hell, we could retire the whole nation on that kind of money!

Fact is, he had an islamic upbringing

Even the ultra-conservative National Review debunked the story that Barak Obama attended a madrassa and had an Islamic upbringing.

Even if Obama currently practiced Islam I dont see the issue. This is supposed to be a country where you are free to practice whatever religion you please without discrimination or oppression provided it does not impede on others. I believe that a president should rule the country with moral value free of any specific religion but bound by common sense. We have yet to see this in my lifetime with all the Christian presidents we have had so I dont think you can say their religious belief is a point without saying that all our prior presidents have failed us because they were Christian. I am not so sure I would vote for Obama for other reasons but religion will not be one of them!

He was raised by his white grandparents in Hawaii. His father was a Harvard educated Kenyan, who abandoned his white mother, who was from Kansas, when he was just a baby. He only saw his father again once in his life, when he was 10 and it was a short visit. I learned all this just this morning, when Harry interviewed him for the Early Show (CBS)

Where is the muslim influence?

Ridiculous troublemaking GOSSIP De-Bunked by CNN:

JAKARTA, Indonesia (CNN) -- Allegations that Sen. Barack Obama was educated in a radical Muslim school known as a "madrassa" are not accurate, according to CNN reporting.

Insight Magazine, which is owned by the same company as The Washington Times, reported on its Web site last week that associates of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-New York, had unearthed information the Illinois Democrat and likely presidential candidate attended a Muslim religious school known for teaching the most fundamentalist form of Islam.

Obama lived in Indonesia as a child, from 1967 to 1971, with his mother and stepfather and has acknowledged attending a Muslim school, but an aide said it was not a madrassa. (Watch video of Obama's school )

Insight attributed the information in its article to an unnamed source, who said it was discovered by "researchers connected to Senator Clinton." A spokesman for Clinton, who is also weighing a White House bid, denied that the campaign was the source of the Obama claim.

He called the story "an obvious right-wing hit job."

Insight stood by its story in a response posted on its Web site Monday afternoon.

The Insight article was cited several times Friday on Fox News and was also referenced by the New York Post, The Glenn Beck program on CNN Headline News and a number of political blogs. (Watch how the Obama "gossip" spread )

School not a madrassa
But reporting by CNN in Jakarta, Indonesia and Washington, D.C., shows the allegations that Obama attended a madrassa to be false. CNN dispatched Senior International Correspondent John Vause to Jakarta to investigate.

He visited the Basuki school, which Obama attended from 1969 to 1971.

"This is a public school. We don't focus on religion," Hardi Priyono, deputy headmaster of the Basuki school, told Vause. "In our daily lives, we try to respect religion, but we don't give preferential treatment."

Vause reported he saw boys and girls dressed in neat school uniforms playing outside the school, while teachers were dressed in Western-style clothes.

"I came here to Barack Obama's elementary school in Jakarta looking for what some are calling an Islamic madrassa ... like the ones that teach hate and violence in Pakistan and Afghanistan," Vause said on the "Situation Room" Monday. "I've been to those madrassas in Pakistan ... this school is nothing like that."

Vause also interviewed one of Obama's Basuki classmates, Bandug Winadijanto, who claims that not a lot has changed at the school since the two men were pupils. Insight reported that Obama's political opponents believed the school promoted Wahhabism, a fundamentalist form of Islam, "and are seeking to prove it."

"It's not (an) Islamic school. It's general," Winadijanto said. "There is a lot of Christians, Buddhists, also Confucian. ... So that's a mixed school."

The Obama aide described Fox News' broadcasting of the Insight story "appallingly irresponsible."

Fox News executive Bill Shine told CNN "Reliable Sources" anchor Howard Kurtz that some of the network's hosts were simply expressing their opinions and repeatedly cited Insight as the source of the allegations.

Obama has noted in his two books, "Dreams From My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope," that he spent two years in a Muslim school and another two years in a Catholic school while living in Indonesia from age 6 to 10.

I think what we need is a fair and balanced President.
To see another’s point of view and understand it is a wonderful gift and as such should be looked on as a good thing and not just another little point to try to make him look bad.
