An online friend of mine started a yahoo group called "Change Your Mind" & she made me a co-owner. The other day she started a thread which generated a lot of insightful responses. I wanted to share this thread with all of you, hoping to get some of your thoughts & ideas on the matter. ********************************************************* RE: [Change Your Mind] Creating Reality, Creating Life, Manifesting - Let's hear your thoughts, beliefs The theme of Change Your Mind has always been how we can change our lives by changing our minds. Now, my belief that we do change our lives by changing our thoughts has never changed since I first had the idea to create this group. But HOW we do this and to the extent is still something of a trial and error process even for me. It's a wide topic and i'm sure there are many different views out there. There are no right or wrong answers here, and everyone is free to "change their mind" later or not even after stating a certain view here so please don't be afraid to speak up.
What are your current views and beliefs on the extent to which one has the power to change their lives by changing their minds?
Do you believe it is an actual manifestation in life or a state of mind?
Are there any outside factors, other people, destiny, fate, God (Creator) who plays a part in how much and to what extent we are able to do so?
Any examples anyone wishes to share of how they changed their lives by changing their minds?
Or, how they were not able to change something no matter their mindset?
I know you guys are out there, I know everyone has an opinion here, let's discuss it and see what we all come up with.
Love Steph ******************************************** Wow Steph, an awesome thread you introduced to the group! I like the responses I'm reading. Very insightful. I'm not going to pretend that I have all the answers because if there is one aspect of life that I am certain about it's that life is always moving, forever changing. So what I believed in 10 years ago as being the "gospel truth" no longer holds true for me today. And I'm ok with that. I'll see if I can sum up in as little space as possible what I believe in. I do believe that God/Creator/Universal Source created all of us in His image & likeness. We are the energy of God. To me, this gives us the same creating abilities that He has. I believe that thought/spoken word/action is what creates my reality. What I truly believe in - where I place my focus - what I say out loud to myself & announce to others - and the action I take {or chose not to take} is what creates the story of my life. I relate that to the "law of attraction" in that whatever I place my focus on {whether positive or negative} attracts more of the same energy into my life. I've experienced it in a thousand ways. I've woken up feelings horrible, out of sorts, nasty & mean for no apparent reason but seemingly unable to shake this dour mood I'm in. I then went on to attract through out my day, every negative, nasty experience out there being drawn to me. I had no one to blame but myself.... like energy attracts like energy. On the other hand, I've woken up on occasion feeling awesome... rested, happy, on top of the world and the rest of my day seemed like a magical fairy tale unfolding before me in where I had happy & joyful experiences. Again, like energy attracting like energy. Every experience I have ever had in my life, whether I deemed them good or bad experiences, has in hindsight been a wonderful blessings to me BECAUSE it helped to form the woman that I am today & I really love who I am! Whenever I am not particularly liking a line in my personal written story that is being played out, I thank it for the lessons it has taught me and then CHANGE MY MIND! Write another story line for myself. To me, the Universal Source is nothing more than a very large copy machine. It's only purpose to send back to me like energy of what I'm sending out through my beliefs & thoughts & words & actions. It does not judge "right" or "wrong", it has no emotional attachment to outcome. It's only wish/desire is to create more of what I am sending out in energy. So when I perceive something going haywire in my life, I cannot sit here shaking my fists at the Universe & curse it.... for I was the one who began the creation. Anyways, these are some of my thoughts on the matter & as I said in the beginning, they aren't written in stone & may not be what I perceive to be "truth" tomorrow. Love, Theresa

Excellent post ! Keep them coming !
I believe wholeheartedly on the premise that "What you think, you ARE." Your mind is a powerful tool to use for good or for ill. It is a most powerful influence especially in live or die issues. When faced with a serious illness such as cancer, a patient can either choose to get well or to "die on time" as Bernie Siegel put it. It is the choice of the person involved. Many times, people don't know they even have a choice. Mind over matter DOES work, though. I have seen it happen over and over - for the good AND for the ill. In college, I had a huge problem with Math anxiety. The fear just overwhelmed me. I had the desire to learn the material but when it came to taking a test I would freeze. I worked very hard at overcoming this. When I would sit down and take a test, I would think of it as just another practice test. I quite changing my answers ! Many times, I would have the correct answer and then go back and change it. Another thing that I did was force myself to have an attitude adjustment. Instead of allowing the fear factor to always win ( I HATE Math! ) , I began forcing myself to say "I LOVE Math ! " It sounded so weird and foreign but after a short time, I began to relax and really "get it" as far as the concepts went. I could finally start to see how all the pieces fit together. It was because I was not dwelling on the fears and limitations I had in Math. When I started college, I barely knew how to do Algebra. I had pre-tested for Math and I was placed in a Pre- Algebra class. When I graduated, I had completed Pre-Calculus. I would have continued in school had it not been for changes in life situations that I had no control over. I greatly miss my Math classes. I want to continue up the ladder and complete the sequence of ALL the Math classes I can get my hands on. Yes, it IS mind over matter. It is for the good or for the ill. It is your own personal choice. Everyone has the power to make that choice for the positive and have the happiness in life that they so desire . If you can think it, it CAN be done !

One does not change ones mind in reality, one opens ones mind by validating truth from concepts you were exposed to from birth as truth. When a child is born they have no concept such as Ego nor I, that is learned.
So in your vernacular in reality to change ones mind they do it by the acceptance of a new concept they embrace, to replace an old one. Sort of like the Eastern Mystic concept of peeling the onion of mind.
Acceptance is the cornerstone that mind is based upon, because the mind is filled with a lot of garbage that you were told as true, that is not. We literally do not think so to think we change mind is in error. We simply filter through data the mind is filled with to form pictures we then can Accept or reject, or choose between them. It has been scientifically shown by statistics that invariably your intuitive choice rather than choices you worry or fret over is usually the correct choice.
As far as religion that is mystical based on the here after when in fact Eastern mysticism is not mystical but practical since it is grounded in the reality of the here and now.
One has the power within to emulate and be any type of person you wish to be. The only person in reality who is in charge of you is you and you alone unless your own insecurities make you believe others know better than you what is best for you.
Even a Enlightened person is a work in progress, that is never ending. There is always more to learn at any age or level of sageness because there is no boundaries or limits to bind you with Accept your ability to and willingness to maintain an open mind.
God is but one of many labels and code words in many languages for "All that there is". If we have a spirit or soul that leaves the body, then it is energy. If that is so that energy is one and connected NOW with all that there is, so it is not necessary to await an after life to embrace the concept. The problem is can you be open minded enough to accept the concept and go against traditional Western concepts based on Greek logic and Monotheistic concepts we were born into?
