Subject line, above, is a quote from the end of this article.
It's a very well said thing: stop this foolishness. And it is foolishness, as well as worse than foolishness, so much of what goes on.
The very essence of law is, after all, self protection.
If it's illegal to commit murder, it is not solely to hem in those who wish to commit it, as some of them seem to think, but it is an agreement between all peoples: a basic agreement that should be held up by all citizens and alien residents alike, for their own good.
If you commit murder, if you steal, if you rape, if you lie, if you harass others, then you are making, for your own self and for your children, the sort of society where that behavior is expected. But, if you refrain, and if you teach your children to refrain, then you are making a society where that sort of behavior is unacceptable to be done to you and yours.
It doesn't mean it never will happen, of course, because some people just won't enter into those sort of agreements. Or, they are so selfish that they view it as a completely one-sided agreement: you should agree not to harm them, but they can do what they want if it makes them feel good or it gets them a new car, for instance.
As long as you are one of those sort of people, however, you have no moral right to complain about anything that happens to you. For the rest of us, there are the Police and the State Troopers to help protect us from the foolish behavior of those who can't see that laws regarding respect of ways of living and right to life are for their own good.

I just hate when the police and state troopers engage in said behavior! And even worse, when the government itself does! (Vietnam, JFK Assassination, etc etc...)
In the Brahman/ Buddhist traditions of India, they have a word- "Ahimsa" (Sanskrit) which means, roughly translated, "non- harming". It basically means, whatever you do, do no harm to living things directly or indirectly. It is a state of compassion toward one's surrounding environment.

Drugs, scales, and blown apart babies.
It is time to eradicate the culture that produces this incident, and ones like it, the culture of drugs and violence.
A good start would be to stop glorifying it in the media.
The four criminals who did this need personal termimnation.

Profound statement! Great Blog! Thank you, Ma'am!
It is a state of compassion toward one's surrounding environment.
And that is what I meant by what I have said, at different times and in different ways, as to how the good in all religions may not agree with the Holy Scripture in complete detail but it is but you will find all the same basic concepts of goodness from any religion in the Holy Scriptures. Not, mind you, necessarily in the teachings of any religious group claiming to follow them but in the actual collection of books!
Much of the teachings of the Holy Scriptures is in regards to explaining how to maintain harmony between mankind and animals, mankind and plants, mankind and mankind, how to put in the effort to do so and prove that you want a balanced and loving environment ... and a promise that if you do this, if you put in the effort and show that is what you want, then it will be given to you and that understanding will be placed inside you so there will no longer be the hardship that goes with trying to maintain that balance.
Balance, moderation in all things but love, is how to achieve happiness in this world, regardless of what your religious beliefs are, because it grants One serenity of mind, health of body, and trust in friendships.. more so than the alternatives.
