I was looking up pictures of Ziggy Stardust when I ran into this article., which I am now thoroughly disgusted by!
Maybe thoroughly is too strong a word, but disgusted is not. The whole thing reads like a eulogy and not just any eulogy but a "Oh well he was old so it's just as well." eulogy.
The man turned 60! It's not a crime and it's not a sign that he no longer has any talent, for goodness sakes. He's altered over time: big deal! So have we all!
The description of his appearance, his voice, his accomplishments, all of it, is tinged with pity and a sort of reluctant admiration for what is aged and therefore no longer accomplished.
I would hope he'd seek out whomever it was that wrote that article about him and paddle their fanny like the self-centered spoiled brat they are deserves .. except anyone who would write that way about such a legendary, talented person doesn't deserve the honor!

I agree. It feels as though the writer was just going for a superficial assessment of the singer, already having disliked his music, and, in the spirit of cognitive dissonance, can only find flaws. Still, I have a few Bowie DVD's and, with the snapshot of the 70's and 80's, I find there's periods I prefer. So sue me.
I may be guilty of this on one level though. Last year, A Flock of Seagulls came to Winnipeg in a small tour.I wanted to see them play - as the rooster-haired synth-pop icons. Instead, in the newspaper the day before, I seen 'em, bald and barrel-chested. It didn't seem right, like they were their own cover band. I didn't go.

There's plenty of people at 60 who have tremendous talent. Incidently, Ziggy Stardust was actually a song about Jimi Hendrix

I grew up on Ziggy, Diamond Dogs, Station To Station, and all the old stuff. Bowie, in my opinion, was best during the Mick Ronson days. A fantastic, yet under rated musician & song writer among the younger crowd today. He & Marc Bolan (T Rex) cut new ground in the 70's. An endless line of artists found their direction from copying these guys style. But, sadly.... people don't know this.
Let's not forget Iggy Pop's influence too

Incidently, Ziggy Stardust was actually a song about Jimi Hendrix Really JimNastics? I mean .. hmm.. okay, I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm asking for more information. lol Where did you hear that? When? Do you have a link?
I could totally see some parts of it being about him, like "He played it left hand Became the special man.." and "When the kids had killed the man I had to break up the band" Could be very Jimmy, yes! But I can't really see this part being about him:
now Ziggy really sang, screwed up eyes and screwed down hairdo Like some cat from Japan, aww he could lick 'em by smiling He could leave 'em to hang 'came on so loaded man, well hung and snow white tan.
... mainly of course because of the last three words.

Yeah, but you weren't a news reporter sent to cover one of the greatest pop/rock icons that ever existed and is still existing, who revolutionized his industry several times over decades and is still touted as one of the sexiest men alive.
If you had been, you'd have had a responsibility to go and look into the why's and wherefore's of him being all those things.
