Because we don't think about future generations, they will never forget us. ~Henrik Tikkanen

Bet ya can't watch the whole thing. But ya should.

There are no passengers on Spaceship Earth. We are all crew. ~Marshall McLuhan, 1964

He's not just talking about us ya know. Every living thing is also part of the crew.

I hope the local critters at least received an eviction notice. Yeah...right.

Kinda puts a different light on the "Harmony" that's been around here lately. Rather similar, when ya think about it.
I guess it's no wonder we have such a difficult time getting along with each other. We can't even get along with our Mother Planet. What a bunch a idgidts.

Lord help us.
We are certainly past the point of helping ourselves. As a people anyway.

The only hope lies within each of us, as individuals. One small effort at a time.
You can make a difference.

But you have to start somewhere.
Lead by example.

The more we take, the less we become.

"Begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in eternity. We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand -- and melting like a snowflake."
Ray, Marie Beyon

She wasn't talking about the same thing but I think it applies.
Good blog! Thanks for the reminder

As I've always said...in the absence of wisdom, the argument is only "what can you do." Wisdom tempers that argument, challenging..."what should you do."

Well, I watched to the end also. It saddens me to think this is what we have handed down to the future, only technology, and nothing about keeping the earth as we found it.

I was such a greenie when my kids were young. For their birthdays, they got one gift only and then we let them choose a tree they wanted us to plant in our humble piece of earth. I had such a variety of them in the place that was my home for 30 years, it was also hard to leave them behind when the divorce was inevitable and assets were divided.

In my new abode, I have planted 15 trees already, I just love giving all my birds places to nest! And I am part of the Clean & Green and have signed an agreement to keep 5 acres uncut.

My son even majored in Environmental Resource Management.

I am sure that the future generations will remember us for the earth we chose to misuse and hand to them.

Ahhhhh yes.....

In harmony with nature.....as long as we can have our toothpicks.

We flock to the cinemas to see transformer like monsters devouring cities and landscapes, we scream at the horror of it all for entertainments sake....

Yet this is happening everyday, everywhere, third world and industrialized. We're killing ourselves, slowly but surely...

2 things popped in my head watching that video (and yes, I watched the whole thing...turned the sound down but watched it).........

1. When lumberjack has his axe, the animals scurry in fear of the noise, imagine the fear instilled in them when this machine is going?
2. The guy working the machine didn't look old enough to drive.......is this slave labour? Then again with all the technology and video games, i am sure my son could do that too. But I can bet yer a$$ he chops a tree down anywhere near me I'm gonna beat him silly! Wow and they wonder why they keep adding animals to the extinct list!

Thanks for posting that, Tunes, well done!

I've been sending this link to everyone I know...

I know it won't cheer anyone - but it might wake some folks up.

tunes - whats the answer? We each are living on a piece of land that once looked like that. The trees here were not from a "harvest" - it looked like a land clearing for new houses or some other development.

Do we put a limit on procreation?

Paper mills and other tree product companies have scientifically learned how to reforest at the same rate that they remove trees. There is zero loss. This has been going on for 20+ years.

The good news is that this John Deere MACHINE surely takes the place of 30-40 illegal workers!

This was under the video. Not that I believe it all.

timber harvesting is not always a bad thing. with proper management, this land will be covered with new, larger, healthier growth in a few short years. part of the process is to remove small crowded growth, in order to allow the stronger, straighter trees to mature. left too long, many pines will become crowded and die. much better to harvest them and use them for the thousands of products people use every day. also, use of this machine creates much less waste...

Yes I watched the entire 5 1/2 minutes. He took down 10 trees... geez someone do the math, how many in 8 hours?
