I always picture your blogs.. that's right picture them .. your words are wonderful descriptors for those of us who are visualists... the beauty we cannot see first-hand is evident through your words...
Thanks for another visually beautiful blog...

Suddenly I heard him call out to me, and when I looked up a big red-tailed hawk went sailing right past me, perhaps 40 feet away! Apparently it had been sitting on the peak of our roof watching me.... I quite possibly saved her life ya know....it was a big Red Tail and Sci is tiny. I sat there for a moment, watching it eyeing Sci and from my vantage point; it was licking its lips....err...beak...but I saw the expression clearly...scary.
I clearly deserve Taco Bell today, mmmmmm hmmmm.

Nice blog and I also enjoy watching hawks. Happen to have a pair of red tails that live in the woods behind me so I get to observe them quite often. have even seen them catch fish in the creek and sadly have also seen them swoop down to catch a morning dove.
they are really something to watch as they soar and look ofr something to feed on. Again a really great blog.

Beautiful tale, as always...~*~
All of those hawks in one day - it does make you wonder... both in the questioning sense and in the pondering sense as well. They must be hungry; why else would so many be showing themselves so near to population centers? Or is it that prey is more plentiful where humans feed birds out in the open - and mice and other small rodents are privy to the leftovers as well? The hawks must adapt or perish, and with West Nile having greatly reduced bird populations, the hawks have likely changed habits and venues.
It must be both exciting and disconcerting to know such life and death drama in nature is right outside ones door...

I wonder if the harshness of the winter has pushed these creatures of nature out of their 'comfort zones'. Humans and wildlife alike have been spoiled by our recent string of mild winters. This one is a 'dilly'. We adapt, but sometimes that means changing our strategy a bit on how we deal with things, especially the weather!
Wonderfully written 'tale'....... ~*~

Beautiful, Sci! I hope you got some amazing shots!
I've been seeing quite a few hawks here as well....usually perched high in an old snag or atop a utility pole, gazing down at the ground waiting for dinner to scamper by.
Are we going to get to see the pictures? *insert puppy dog eyes emote here*

I remember seeing the Red Tailed Hawks on the power poles. Just sitting there as casual as can be. I need to see what a Cooper hawk looks like! I will google one.

How lucky you are! I am an avid observer of Hawks and Eagles. Quite unusual for the Coopers to have remained in your area so late into winter I know Red Tails are more likely to remain!
There is nothing more breathtaking than to see a giant Red Tail doing his thing!
Keep a lookout on your squirrels!

A family of Red-Tails graced my property--the same tree, the same nest--for the first four years of our arrival. Each spring we'd watch the adults feed their young, then later watch those babies flounce from branch to branch and eventually take wing.
It's been three years since we've seen them. I still watch for them, but to no avail.
I'll miss your blogs these next four weeks....

We have both Cooper's and Red-Tailed hawks in the cemetery where I work. They are beautiful. I chased one off who was after a little mourning dove. Got a cold, hard stare from the hawk for my trouble. Smarter than I imagined, the dove had taken refuge in a pricker bush.
