....Leave it to the laziest month of all, February, to host the most insidious holiday of all, Valentine's day. ....Feb is just pissed 'cos nobody wants to pronounce the "r' in the middle. ...So it sponsors this yearly terrorism. ....I won't go into the whole rant about how the holiday was fabricated by Candy, Flower, and Card Companies. ....Or the story of St. Valentine. The History Channel covers that just fine. ...I've never had a good experience with this day. ...In elementary school, they make you draw a name of a girl and you have to trade those little Valentines that come in a box of 25. Of course there are always like 28 kids in the class so ya gotta get two boxes......grrrrr. ...I don't know how they rigged it but every year I had the same girl, Lara Somebody, to trade with. We were both painfully shy so we never got any farther than bashful glances... ....Even as an adult I had, not one but two, girls break up with me the day after Valentine's so they could get the loot first..... ....Or the GF who got us ejected from my favorite Key Largo bistro for her drunken outburst during our VD day dinner....The pained look on the faces of the wait staff and owners at having to throw one of their favorite customers into the middle of US1, I'll never forget. ....The only good thing I can see about this day is the sale on dark chocolate the day after... ....Has my heart become so small and cruel and withered that it can't see the fun in this "national wallet vacuum" day? Yes. ....Screw you St. Valentine. Hope ya get St. Elmo's Fire.

Ok, this is kind of sad.. But the best Valentines Day was the one I spent with my Mom.. I was younger and before I met my ex-husband… I wasn’t dating anyone, and didn’t’ want to sit home all depressed.. So I asked my Mom if she wanted to go out to dinner.. She wasn’t’ seeing anyone at the moment and agreed.. We went out for Chinese food, and had a great dinner and I really enjoyed being with my Mom that night… Growing up we always seemed to be at odds most of the time.. She never had the same problem with my brothers… However that night, we talked and laughed and really had a great time…
Even after I got married, it never seemed to be all that romantic… I would either cook at home, or when we’d go out… it was only because he wanted to eat out… I’d get a box of chocolates, that most of the time, I’d wouldn’t’ even get any… He and my daughter would get to it before I did.. Once or twice, my daughter would say.. Here Mom, do you want this one… So, going to be alone this year.. Maybe I’ll by myself a box of chocolates and actually get some…

Yeah, I was never particulary {that word looks strange} fond of Valentine's Day myself. In my opinion I felt "love" should be shared throughout the entire year... not focused on just one day. And that's what I try to do.
