On January 27, 2008 one of my most trusted and respected heroes passed quietly away. Not much of a fanfare. Yet millions upon millions of people are mourning his passing. Celebrations of his life are also in progress.

Even though I am no longer associated with this organization, there are times when that fact makes me as sad as anything I have encountered in my life. I have nothing but the highest regard for it, and many of my fondest of life’s memories stem from my time within. I am a better man for the experience.

Many of you may not have ever heard of this man. Many of you will immediately jump to erroneous conclusions, stemming from mis-conceptions and just plain bad information. If that is the case, please just keep it to yourself.

I have known him for years. I do not know him personally, but he might very well be the very best man I have ever come to know. I have listened to him hundreds of times. I love him dearly. I respect him and believe him to have been a most powerful force for good on this earth.

A leader of leaders…a true man of integrity…with the quiet voice. And always a loving thought to share. A gentle disposition. A wonderful sense of humor. A man who loved all people, no matter their station. I never heard him speak that I wasn’t overwhelmed with his compassion and great wealth of information.

A quintessential family man. A loyal and faithful husband. An example for anyone to see.

This man is my hero. I love him. I wish I could be even one millionth the man he was while he served his time here on the planet.

His name is Gordon B. Hinckley.

A great example of a life well spent.

There was a rerun of an interview with him on 60 minutes last night---what a gentle soul he seemed to have been.

Bravo tunes -

People who have an open mind and basic decency get to know men like Hinkley!
