What is the greatest gift? People from all over the world have given gifts and have received gifts. Ask yourself, what is the greatest gift you have every received? A car? Flowers? Jewelry? Electronics? Think about it for a second and when you come up with your answer continue on.
Now what ever happened to that gift you thought was the greatest one you ever received? Is it long gone? Trashed? Returned? Worn out? Destroyed? Died? Most likely it is all gone or will be sometime in the future. Or you got tired of it and now it just sits there. That is what happens to material gifts.
But I know a gift that never dies, never fades, as long as it is true. And if it is true, then oh what a great gift it is. This gift I talk about is love. With a gift of love how can you go wrong. Let me offer this passage that explains love perfectly.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil: does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
A material gift is temporary happiness. Love is a lifetime of happiness. The next time someone asks you what you would like as a gift you might want to say just your love. Anything on top of that is just nice, not great. Only love is great, in my opinion.
