My parents revealed to me a week or so before Carianne went to the hospital that they'd pay for my tattoo for my birthday if I wanted it.

After a few hours of thinking over my options, I narrowed my ideas down to these few things:
-Undertaker symbol
-Symbol of the Empire (Star Wars)
-A German flag
-An Italian flag
-A Batman symbol (I really do like Batman...I know, I've never expressed that)
-Pinhead

I eliminated the stupid ones, like the Batman symbol and Pinhead, and then figured that for my first tattoo...it should be something that I really and truly love and have loved for years.

Can anyone guess what I picked?

Now...you know how I love my heritage, but I figured....that can come later. Besides, I really didn't want to have to go through the whole "Which flag comes first" thing. Both my mother and father would have a vested interest in that fight. Plus, my boyfriend, and yeah....just not worth it right now.

I decided to go with The Undertaker's symbol. That's right....this will be going smack-dab in the middle of my chest, on the back of my neck, or somewhere on my collar bone. And I don't care if I regret it when I'm 50, either.

Something that has lasted this long deserves recognition like this, and besides, regretting it when you're 50 is part of the fun.

Nice choice; .. I remember my first tattoo. I took my son on his 18th birthday
to get a tattoo, that's what he wanted. While we were there he "dared" me, .. HA
Dare me, ..and I'm there ...so, yup got a tattoo on his 18th bday, ..will never
forget that day! ..the "tattoo guys" were going .."come on mom, ..get a tattoo" ,...
little intimidating. Then, imagine my surprise when I had to take my shirt off
not only in front of the, but my son too !!! ...

You may be hooked now after one !!

Go for it ! I'm 65, and nobody ever said she liked me for my unadorned hide. I always admired those with a full rigged sailing ship, or japanese dragons.

I KNEW that was the one...I didn't even have to click!!!!!

As for the flags, you could get both of those done as one tattoo, somehow intertwined or something.......

teddybear is right... once you get your first tat... you'll get another one... I have two... I have my kids name and birthday tatted on my right wrist with roses connecting the circle around and under my wrist...
I have another tat on my inside left forearm... my son designed it... So I'm sure one else has that tat, except my daughter, son and I have that tat. It was family outing.. LOL LOL
I want another tat... but don't know what I want...
Have fun with it...

For a first tattoo I would go with something that best represents you… something beautiful that you can be proud of for the rest of your life…
I’m curious… where are you going to have it done.. (part of the body?) Let us know what you choose!

I doubt you will regret it at any age. When I had mine done, (Native American mandella on my left shoulder) I kept in mind that with my work, I needed it to be hidden from normal view.

I guessed which you were going to have done also.. enjoy!!

So, other than the Undertaker, what else does this symbol represent? Make sure you find out everything about it before you have one ok?

Regret it at 50? Never! I have had my two tats for 25 years. They are hidden but I love them today as much as when I got them.

Oh, that is pretty! I would put that on a shoulder right over the scapula. It would look hot it you were wearing a tank top or a tube top.

On my 18th birthday, my mom paid for my first tattoo as well. I picked something that meant a lot to me and seven years later, I still love it.

This is going to sound weird, but, I have to say it...when you do get it, make sure you have someome there with you, who you do not mind associating that tattoo with forever. I would not let my boyfriend at the time come with me because I did not want it associated with him, trust me, you remember every detail about your first tattoo. Make sure it's memories you want to remember 20 years from now.

I love the tattoo, let us know when you do get it.

mmm my daughters both wanted tattoos years ago and I remember them showing me the ones they wanted.

i told them if they want the same tattoo in five years time, I would pay.

five years later, they hated the tattoos they chose and are happy that they don't have any.

i also remember an 18yr old girl with a 12" Bart Simpson on her right shoulder blade, I can't imagine it does her any justice twenty years later.

but that's just my opinion.
