There is nothing more despicable in today's youth's culture than rap music and the way it degrades women. When I listen to this "c"rap, all I hear is "bitch", "ho", "skank", "gold digger", etc. I hardly ever hear any lyrics that lift females up and put them in a positive position. I remember Tupac Shakur used to write tons of positive songs about his mother and about women in general, but I hardly ever hear that anymore.
This blog is not just about rap. I am deeply concerned about the names that women are being called that don't seem to be a problem to many people, especially women. I can't tell you how often I hear girls refer to themselves as "hos" or "skanks" or "bitches" without even thinking about what it is they are really doing.
Yesterday, in the Politics Forum, some guy called me a "carpet muncher", and didn't really see why that was an issue. That's a term that I find to be extremely offensive, and I let him know. When I told him how offensive it was to me, he laughed at me and accused me of trying to get attention.
Do you know how many lesbians/bi-girls proudly boast about being "carpet munchers"? Why do girls defame themselves like this?
Also, why are there so many negative words for girls, and virtually none for guys. Sure there's "asshole" and "playa"...but...those are not half as nasty as "skank", "slut", "ho", "bitch", "gold digga"...you get my point. The only word that is even on the spectrum is "fag".
A lot of people don't think words are a big deal, but when you look at the big picture, you'll be shocked. "Yeah, I'm a ho". "I'm such a bitch". Why? If a girl is sexually active, why can't she just be proud of being sexually active, instead of calling herself a "ho"? And if a girl is outspoken, independent, and smart (which most "bitches" such as I have been called are), why can't they call themselves that instead of a "bitch"? I don't get it. It's like they don't want to be equal, but instead, they WANT to be insulted, they want to be degraded.
For the record, I'm NOT any of these things and girls that do associate themselves with these words...I'm ashamed of them.

Indeed, I was saddened to see people on this site applaud two bloggers using the word skank to defame women on this site. Sick.

Then young women need to stand up and say" no more"! They need to make a stand about this. If a person stood in front of me and called me this or another woman this? They would be hitting the ground.
My mother never stood for this and I won't either.
Kudo's to you!

Well, maybe if some woman would stop acting like skanks, the word would go away. I for one will call any woman who decides it's her right to sleep with another womans man a skank, whore, or anyother degrading word I can come up with.
You? You don't qualify. And every woman has a piece of "bitch" in her though.
Kuddddddddooooooooooooo.

You can thank greedy record companies for exploiting the ghetto rap fad and taking it mainstream. It's not the rappers themselves who pounded this crap into every kids head in America, it's a bunch of "Suits" in corporate board rooms who did this BS!

The term is used loosely, And feel it's a joke. If you hear something enough one of less character will soon believe it and take strides to find acceptance to cover their insecurity. Men of less character pray on this to make themselves seem and feel better. Sad but true. Kudos to you for moral fiber. And yes, I have friends I call f-er or a$$hole or some form of degradation, and yes thats in fun cause we build each other up more often

My Kudo to you, young lady... Nothing upsets me more than another person making derogatory comments about a woman! Being older than you, one of my issues of insult comes when another starts rumors about office affairs...women have Friends and some are male...doesn't mean she is doing the town! Some people...Gee! Get a life! L

You are many things LGQ, intelligent, articulate, sexy, classy, honest...I could keep going. There are many things that are not as well. Terms such as ho, biotch or slut should never apply to you. It is simply a label, used by the ignorant to attack those who are better than they are.
BTW, suits at the record companies don't create demand. They only give the public what they want to hear. They don't care if you buy Sinatra, or Biggie Smalls. Hell, if they didn't sell and promote hip hop, then they would be called racists and criticized for censorship. Don't blame the suits, blame the society that glorifies the so called artist who propegate this lifestyle. If people didn't buy the crap and didn't listen to the crap, then the crap would disappear.

I remember Tupac in a different light. I remember him as a gang-banging thug who got shot becasue of rap/gang related activity.
But all thug-life mentalities aside, you can pretty much pull up any insult in the dictionary, and it's been used in the political forums or been used because of the political forums. Very rarely are any issues actually discussed there. It's just someone stating what they believe, and a bash session between those who agree and those who disagree.
