Children are a gift.
We hear that phrase often, but it is so very true.
When I was young, my ambitions went no further than to get married, have many children, and create a happy home (including a very happy man). It didn't work that way for me, but I was blessed with a son who is grown, married, and living his own life now
And then there's the younger one. Not taking anything away from my older son, but I must have done something very good to have been gifted with this child. He's kept me from being alone at this time in my life and brought back the gift of laughter which had escaped me for a while.
Take today. for instance. I had promised him we would go to the park. While he was disappointed that one of his friends wasn't there, he made a new one. As I was sitting on the park bench, reading one of my new books, the two of them hit it off, running, laughing, digging in the dirt and getting absolutely filthy in the process. In other words, they had a great time.
Soon it was time for the new friend to go home. Daylight was fading so I told my boy it was time for us to leave, also.. Now as you might imagine, this didn't go over very well.
Since I enjoy wasting my breath, I was trying to explain why we needed to go home.
Choking back tears, this wonderful child of mine said, "But I just want to play, Mom. I have dreams too, you know"!

Kids do say some things that make us think..
When my son was 16(10 years after my wife left me for another man)...he asked me,"Daddy,will my wife do the same thing to me as mama did to you?"
Now tell me...how does a daddy answer that correctly?
