I often find myself disturbed by the gleeful crowing of some over the perception (whether correct or not) of someone having failed or been handed a disappointment. (Funny how often this is prematurely announced by certain individuals, as well.)
At best, it's very immature and shows what a small person one is that they have to celebrate what they see as someone's failure, rather than celebrating the winner but still empathizing with the disappointments of any loser in a contest.
I don't remember the passage exactly, but it was from Homer. Odysseus' men saw a hunchback and one struck him upon the hump with a rod. Then, when tears welled in the man's eyes, they laughed uproariously. Glee and joy at someone's pain, shame or disappointment is the mark of a very small person.

ok, lets us agree that you are seperating the dickpickers and the wannabes from those who truely compete. because as a coach i cannot recall such ridicule happening unless it among brethen. if you do not understand what i mean by brethern, step forth and foolishly speak about the hump on his back. by the way, most of the brethern are small, and that is why they unite. selah

It a sad society we live in when people laugh at the man who as fallen into the ditch rather than giving him a helping hand out.

When I was a very young man I always frowned on people that enjoyed other peoples pain!
I generally offered and did take those kind of people to a place called "Knuckle Junction" or "Fist City"! They never enjoyed the trip or stay.....but, I sure as hell did!!

They are young souls. Don't worry about it. Don't get your knickers in a twist. After all, you were a mean ass young soul at one time in your incarnational process.

In this country we love to build our hero's up, and then enjoy as much tearing them down..

Not all of us derive good feelings from the tearing down, process, Union. I happen to believe that's a character flaw. It certainly doesn't seem to me like anyone following that most basic of philosophies of The Golden Rule would take any joy in someone else's suffering.

The Golden Rule if only people actually lived by that! The part that really bothers me is those that enjoy the pain of others are the first to complain if someone does the same to them. Life is what you make of it try to bring Joy into it and you might get some back.

I do worry about the young souls. Sometimes young souls grow up to handle nuclear weapons, manage companies that affect the health and welfare of others, or simply live next door.
